Understood. I think that's a little shortsighted, however. That attitude assumes that, just because there weren't nationally published polls, that teams weren't considered national champions at the time. To go that route would be to suggest that there were no national champions until the late 20s.

Fact is, the Rose Bowl was considered by most at the time to be a de facto national title game.

I'd be fine if you didn't think it deserves to be on the list at all. I will never argue for even the slightest legitimacy when it comes to that claim.

I could accept that argument prior to the advent of the wire service polls. By 1951, no one took the math systems seriously anymore.

To suggest that the math systems deserve legitimacy doesn't flow with your opposition to retroactive selections. An algorithm is what it is whether you apply it to this year or any other year. It's not like a group of people were polled for their opinions on a season they may or may not remember.

I don't like conversing with a bunch of people who all agree with me. It's probably a personality disorder.

Well, if you are looking for more "stimulating conversation," I guess you have come to the right place. I hope that we will agree on one point: Tennessee and Alabama, or Alabama and Tennessee, as you would undoubtedly prefer, are old-guard. Both programs have deeply entrenched histories of success and tend to take winning in stride, which stands in stark contrast with certain Johnny-come-lately programs that look down upon the rest of college footballdom from their self-appointed Mt. Olympus. For the most part, Tennessee vs. Alabama has always been a hard-fought, clean rivalry. And the Goliaths of the two programs, Neyland and Bryant, always regarded that other jersey as the true annual measuring stick. Hopefully, the Third Saturday in October will never get lost in the process of conference expansion/realignment. Although we are down now, that game is, historically, the true marquis matchup in Southern pigskinery.

You both could have bothered to read.

I did read.

My point was not predicated on whether or not you admit any of your titles were a joke. My point was that several of your titles are, indeed, jokes. Therefore, you have no room to bash another team for the same reason, especially when it's not even on the level of awfulness as your own team's (hence my "color black/manilla folder" comment).

You could have bothered to comprehend.

Several? You mentioned one. And it was the one I had quite clearly disowned. So either you are trying to make up for making a meaningless argument, or you have no concept of what the word "several" means.

Sorry.

Considering Bama fans' penchant for mysteriously turning number X into X+2 or more, I just figured you would have seen the 1 example that I mentioned and turned that into 3 or more examples.

My mistake.

Nice try. More than half of your claims are worse than all but one of Bama's.
