Cooper And Jackson

I see Alexa being a valuable role player and a good soldier, but I don't see her as the PG of the future.

Ms. Cooper has all the tools - she just needs the decision making and discretion to go with the talent. I think sitting her more will help her realize that she, like most freshman, has a TON to learn and apply before she can be trusted to fully take over the PG spot.

Trixietrouble: I have watch the two players play in HS and Alexa is by far the better player on both ends of the floor. And note: She can shoot the three.

I didn't see either in High School, so I can't comment there.

I have observed them both THIS SEASON, and while I think Alexa is a great team player, I don't see her with near the potential that comes with Cooper. Alexa gets stuffed when going inside and I don't see that changing. I also think if she was a far better player in practice she wouldn't be riding the bench on this team that is not strong on guard play.

That being said, I too would choose her over Cooper NOW, because of Cooper's poor decision making. Whether it be TOs, a silly foul or three, bricking 3 pt shots, or a slicing penetration into three defenders, she makes a lot of freshman mistakes - and well, she is a freshman.

Ms. Cooper needs to take a lot of detailed instruction, listen to it, and apply it. I see great things, but only after the required growth.

Cooper does NOT have all the tools--that is precisely the problem. She is very good at taking the rock to the rim, no question. But we are playing against zone defenses every game--and she has been terrible, because you typically can't drive through a zone. Her shooting has been awful, she commits turnovers--and she is not a good defensive player. Warlick made a bad mistake starting her to start the season--surprise!--and, despite the fact that Cooper's been costing us on both ends in EVERY game, Warlick continues to give her minutes. Her minutes have decreased, but not enough. Don't get me wrong, Cooper has potential--but she clearly is someone who is better against man defenses. But we're not going to see man defense against us because we're so incompetent against zones: that is what almost everybody is going to play, if they have any sense.

We have four players who are essentially point guards--and NOT ONE of them has the overall qualities to seize the position. It's too bad. Our guard play has been meh, by and large, for 15 years. Who was the last great guard we had? I couldn't even tell you.

I know nothing about the type of analytics used in basketball--but they are increasingly being used, and Warlick and her staff, should be using them, if they are not already. They might show who should be on the floor and who not.

MeMe is the least talented offensive player on the team (and that is saying something). The teams problem right now is an inability to put the ball in the basket. MeMe will not help with that problem.

Jackson has the 2nd BEST turnover stat committing one every 19 minutes second only to Dunbar who commits one every 33 minutes.

Cooper is the WORST on the team committing a turnover once every 7 minutes or 5 a game.

I like the comparison of Cooper and Middleton. Does anyone remember last year? (Middletons freshman year) She was a complete train wreck trying to do superhuman basketball skills! Throwing the ball at our bigs feet and trying double nut clutchers with full twists! (Analogy) She does have BB IQ and it shows. But in my opinion, Cooper is the better athlete and future point guard. She is getting better and needs to play. Middleton is a good sub. and will always be so. Hopefully Tea learns soon and starts to contribute? Arike (ND) guard was rated above Tea and showed it. She was taking the ball inside our defense but getting the shot up before we knew what was happening. Tea will come around?? hopefully soon!

From the first time I saw both of them, the eye test had better results, for me, for Jackson than it did Cooper.

Jackson simply looks and moves more like a naturally gifted athlete. What Jackson may lack in shooting ability she makes up for in her willingness to actually TAKE THE SHOT. The biggest upside to Jackson is that she can learn -- with more discipline and willingness to spend extra time practicing -- to become a great shooter.

Some kids that age get it, and some don't. Some natural athletes feel so confident in their bodies and their ability to "play just about anything well instantly" because they've done it their whole lives, that they are among the laziest students of the game and are the least willing to put in the extra hours. They simply think, "I'm good," and go do something else fun.

My hope is that MeMe grows into the OTHER type of natural athlete -- the one that knows she can do anything or mimic any movement she chooses, but who also realizes that even people as naturally good as she is can get even BETTER with extra effort.

Get to it, MeMe! Go beyond your current natural abilities and practice and fine tune until you ARE a great shooter!

Cooper is better basketball player, the mind game, understanding the plays, doing more than one thang at a time, better understanding of the process.

Meme is a better athlete, with potential to be a great basketball player, her confidence was not good last year, her mind wasn't there. Once Meme get some mental toughness, she'll be fine, well let's hope, moments were too great for her last year. If becomes confidence, mentally tougher, then she challenges Cooper.

Cooper has the edge, cos she is a mentally tough kid and that usually what separates players, the mental part of the game, the daily grind, the classes, the meetings, the video, the treatment, practices, the schedules, the media, the daily grind, then the grind of being a Lady Vol, 100% graduation rate. Some young players are able to handle that better than others.

Did Meme gain confidence over the summer in her game and the processes this year, if so, yeah sky is the limit with her athleticism? Let see if Meme embraces what being a Lady Vols is all about this year.

Cooper, shot is fine as long as it goes in, and most of the time for freshman and sophomore, it their legs, 20 games against players your better than vs. 29 games against the hardest schedule in WCBB having to understand u have to play hard on every possession, its a lot, especially wit the expectation of a program like the Lady Vols. Players, coaching staff need time...

End of last year you saw Jamie Nared turning the corner getting her legs...
