Could Bruce Pearl be the next coach in Memphis?

After Memphis self destructed under Oklahoma State's barrage of three points, dunks and block shots last night Tiger fans are calling for Pastner's head. He is currently 0-13 for signature wins against a ranked opponent. Would Bruce Pearl entertain coaching there? It would be a great fit for him. Backyard for recruiting, NBA arena, great fan support and tradition. The one loss last night has Tiger fans convinced it's time for a change. Interesting to see how this plays out.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's still holding out on coming back to UT. If Counzo doesn't win this year, he's probably gone and Bruce can come back.

After watching the Tigers get ripped apart by some talented Cowboys last night Memphis fans are ready for a change. Pastner's seat is heating up and if he doesn't get some signature wins soon his fan base will no longer support him. So, the question arises would Pearl entertain coaching there?

Would like to see Bruce back at UT just because of the passion he has for the sport and the university but that being said I am not pulling for Martin to fail either.

I hope Martin can find a way to win. He's definitely running a cleaner program. There's no way he stays after this year if he can't win though.

I think the question is what is going to be enough to keep Martin or keep fans from calling for him to be fired? Is a touramnet bid good enough? Or does he have to make it passed the first round in the tourny?

I don't think Bruce would take the Memphis job at least I hope he wouldn't.
Frankly I'm still holding out hope that he will lead the Tenneseess BB Team again!
I'd take him back in a minute. He made a mistake and he's paid for it.
I'm not saying fire Conzo and hire Bruce but if Conzo doesn't get it done this year, I'm all for bringing Bruce back.:rock:

That isn't a positive scenario for Tennessee under any aspect. Half Season already struggles to sway prospects from the Bluff City as it is. I can only imagine the kind of wall Bruce Almighty and his would be staff could potentially build.

Pipe dream IMO. Get it out of your head. How many times has a boss fired you then called you back in 3 years to say sorry I was wrong. Not happening. His boss still works here.

I don`t know where Bruce will end up. But I do think this will probably be Martins last year at UT.

He has to make the NCAA tournament this year. It really should only take 2-3 years for a college basketball coach to show what he's capable of.

Would he take it? I would think he would take any major job available, as most coaches have to climb back up the ranks after NCAA troubles. A job like Memphis being available to him would be too sweet to turn down imo. I would think a lower level job would be where he ends up, like an ETSU. Not because he isn't good enough, but because schools usually are very hesitant to mess with coaches with NCAA background. Look at how difficult it has been for his assistants to get back, and they were far less involved. Look at where Shay is now and how hard it was for Forbes to get another shot. I would be stunned if Pearl, who was hit much harder, was fielding offers from Memphis this spring. JMO

I predict that Martin will coach this season and next season and then will be fired.

This season we will again qualify to go to the N.I.T. and will not be motivated to play in that tourney, so we will likely lose in the 1st round again.

Next season, Maymon, McRae & Stokes will be gone and we will have a very bad season. It will be like one of Wade Houston's seasons at U.T.

Then Martin will be fired; however, by that time, Pearl will already be hired at a different university....Probably another northern university. Boston College, Rutgers, etc. etc.

I know Bruce's youngest son and he told me UT was the LAST place he would coach (Because he feels UT never had his back) and I agree on that. But also Memphis is where he wants his dad to coach. So I wouldn't be shocked at all if he ends up there.

what was UT supposed to do? Some schools may have dropped hammer sooner than UT did.

Who do you think UT will play in the first round of the NIT? In the bad season that is coming next year do you think UT will pull any upsets or are you seeing a single digit win season? When Bruce goes to a northern university do you see him hiring a staff that is also from the north or will he be diverse and take people with backgrounds from different areas of the country? Also, if you could, please provide the winning Mega Millions lottery numbers. Thanks a bunch!
