Could Bruce Pearl be the next coach in Memphis?

No way Pearl goes to Memphis. They are just wishful thinking at this point. Pearl will go to a lower-tier ACC/Big East School.

Bruce wants to go to a school where the basketball program is not the main sport at the school. So UT is a perfect fit because the football team and the lady Vols come before the mens basketball team.

Texas won't entrust its basketball program to Pearl. Not happening.

Pearl would be a great candidate for the Memphis job, and appears to be pretty openly campaigning for it. Would be a perfect fit if Pastner were to move on.

It is my understanding that in September of this year, he can be hired by any NCAA school without having to show cause and suffering sanctions.

I think it's August. If I were a program last year, I would have hired him anyway and told the NCAA to come at me. Given what happened with Haith, Hurtt, and Miami, I think a school and Pearl could have challenged NCAA and come out okay.

If a major school was to hire Pearl (and I don't think they will this year as I posted earlier in thread), I think Auburn would be good. New facilities and little pressure.

I predict that Martin will coach this season and next season and then will be fired.

This season we will again qualify to go to the N.I.T. and will not be motivated to play in that tourney, so we will likely lose in the 1st round again.

Next season, Maymon, McRae & Stokes will be gone and we will have a very bad season. It will be like one of Wade Houston's seasons at U.T.

Then Martin will be fired; however, by that time, Pearl will already be hired at a different university....Probably another northern university. Boston College, Rutgers, etc. etc.

Pass the glue. This is an NCAA tourney team.

Remember Pitino ended up in Louisville after a nice tenure in Kentucky. Memphis has the money to lure Pearl.

I dunno, maybe support and advise him like MIZZ did Haith. Seemed to work out pretty well there.

That is hindsight, something UT didn't have at the time. You think anyone expected Haith would get off like that? Also, if UT had done that, they would have gotten slammed. Pearl got hammered. He shouldn't have, but he did. UT standing behind him when it was his own actions that got him into the mess, would have done nothing to avoid that. Pearl had prior slip ups as well.

Also, that Miami case was botched due to the NCAA employee/Miami lawyer mess. NCAA tripped themselves up. Wasn't same situation.

I hope so. I am tired of Pastner and his rec league team. No half court offense, no rebounding, no defense, no set plays. Just dribble dribble dribble drive turnover, or dribble dribble dribble drive miss. Run some screens or pick and rolls. Have a half court offense in place. All he has are athletes with no fundamentals...

It's funny to me that those who obviously really want Pearl back really seem to want Martin to fail; and even to the point that I'm pretty sure things that you say wouldn't be enough for Martin ("making the NCAAT isn't enough") would be celebrated if Pearl did it ("HE GOT US BACK TO THE NCAAT!!!").

I mean if Pearl came back, how much would be put up with? People have been calling for Martin's job almost since he was announced, but if he was fired and Pearl didn't make the NCAAT for 2-3 years, would you guys wanting him back be calling for his head? Or would you make excuses for him, excuses you don't buy for Martin?

Martin could win it all this year and the Pearlites would still want bronzy back simply because Martin lost to Xavier...

I don`t care where Pearl goes but I lost faith in Martin last year when he lost control of his team when they lost by 8 to Mercer. I don`t care if it was just the NIT he still should have had the team ready to play.

Perfect world:

1. UT signs a 10 year neutral court game deal with Memphis to be played in Nashville.
2. 1 day after agreement is reached, Memphis signs Pearl.
