Could dissension among the fanbase effect Coach Jones?

So far it would seem Coach Jones is very open to fan involvement and insight into the program. Do you think the negative comments we are seeing and hearing will impact his attitude toward the fans? I think it would be a shame for us to lose what could be the best window into the program we have had in several years.

Dissension might.

Not sure about dissention, whatever that is.

hehe

I can say after meeting him, talking with him, and seeing the passion from him in person any dissension amongst the fans will come to a halt. This guy is a winner, a leader, and has everything we have been missing for the last 3 years.

Before the presser almost everyone was ready to burn a mattress on here, after I would say the opinions turned to 80% positive at least. There will always be that 8-10% of the fanbase that is not satisfied with anyone not named Gruden, but realistically at this point and time I think history will look back on this hire extremely favorably. I think Coach Jones will win championships here.

Never have liked lawyers. :)

Thanks!

Just teasing. We've all done it.

To answer your question, I think the only way the criticism hurts is if it bleeds over to recruiting. But the truth is that recruits already know there was a bit of panic to this hire. Simple fact is that it is up to Jones to overcome that.

They might as well pipe down.. It's done, it's over.. This guy was going to get a chance somewhere soon anyway.. Maybe we got him at a good time.. He has to recruit well and show people he can coach.. If he does those two things, people will back him.. Gruden was a pipe dream, and really everyone else they were talking too after that Jones was right there with them.... It can't be worse than Dooley.. 5-17 in the SEC shouldn't be hard to top... He may end up a care taker also. I'd almost be willing to bet he'll win a few more SEC games than Dooley did...

This is a no-nonsense man, a bit of a throwback. He won't pay attention to useless nonsense but he will deal with it firmly if in infects his players.

Not if he wins 8 games in 2014

Sure but 2013 will in all liklihood be another train wreck as far as the W/L record, and would have been regardless of who we hired. I wonder how many fans, on some level, would gloat at seeing him fail? Quite a few, I think.

Kentucky, Auburn, Vandy, and Missouri should be winnable games next year, add that to Western Ky, Austin Peay, and Southern Alabama then you have 7 very winnable games next year. I hope he looks at Bama, Florida, and Oregon next year and finds a way to win one of those, it can definitely happen with our players and the right gameplanning and coaching.

People are crying the sky is falling but I see a great chance at 4 SEC wins and 7 overall next year and 8 wins not at all out of the realm of good possibility.

It can't be any worse than Dooley.. I think that's what's lost in all of this... Jones will make it better.. It's how far can he take it that's the question.. It will take some time..

Doolittle's record was actually 5-19. My mistake.. Jones should be able to top that i would think..

Wow, another great Standard, at least better than Dooley. 2 SEC wins? 6 and 6, toilet bowl?

Where are we at anymore? We're not winning championships... 4 out of 5 losing seasons.. You're going to go from that to winning NC or conference championships in short order.. I wanted the splash hire.. We didn't get it.. I think we might have gotten a solid coach though and right now that's all we got.. I don't like the way the search was handled.. If Hart resigned tomorrow i'd say good riddance.. He botched this hire. It still may end up better than what we had and likely will..

Man, I love Birmingham in January.

In all seriousness, I hope the only people that dissension affects are Hart/Cheek. I hope Butch kicks some a** here

We don't have to like it and none of us should want to stay there but the natural progression for Jones is to get us back to winning all of our winnable conference games. Add in a win like SC or last year MSU and we'd be 2 rungs above where we have been. Dooley never progressed that's all we needed to know. Jones may have a 9-10 win ceiling when it's all said and done but in the first 3 years he has to show growth towards that ceiling. I really believe Dooley and Kiffen have us still all so shell shocked that we can't trust a coach to progress and improve the team.

I don't know a TN fan who would not want BJ to win. Do I think he will, nope. It looks like to me we got a Colorado, or Purdue level coach, and that will not work in the SEC.

I understand trying to spin it into a positive, but I see that as exactly what those clowns, Hart and Cheek hoped for.

Anyone that writes the guy off before he has even started is not a True VFL. Dissension by a "fan" before he's even begun coaching our team is the sign of a loser. Go hang with Dooley. I just watched the presser from yesterday, and I saw a confident Coach who is already passionate about our program. I personally was impressed with his words and his passion. After studying up on him a bit, I will be shocked if he doesn't bring the program back in a short period of time. I was hesitant at first, but can't understand why any fan would not back this guy from the get-go.

Agreed, until proven otherwise (aka WIN). Next years schedule may be disheartening at first. If he wins 8 it's a major accomplishment.

I'm just glad we have to start "rebuilding" again after we wasted the last three years supposedly rebuilding.

Jones also strikes me as a blue collar players coach who won't stand for some mamby pamby gator arming temper tantrum throwing player attitudes. I do believe our worst losses were driven by the attitudes and resentments DD allowed to foster and not the ability of the team or the staff as individuals.

They hired a competent coach. A lot worse has been done to this program in the last 2 searches. We are all just too weary and shell shocked to see the forest for the trees. We've hired a competent winning coach. He may struggle but he will improve this team.

Exact same crap was spewed about Dooley, 4 years ago. I think you must have copied it from back then and changed the name from Kiffin to Dooley.

Does competent and winning, include beating teams in the top 25 in the past?
