Could dissension among the fanbase effect Coach Jones?

It will be nearly impossible to please everybody, regardless of who the Coach is. I think most fans are great with the hire. Winning will calm a lot of the
naysayers down. If we beat some SEC teams that we haven't beaten in a while, Coach Jones will be on the short list for Governor of Tennessee. There has been some oppostion to every coach we've ever had going all the back to the 1890s. So, if I was Coach Jones,I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Message boards are a very small portion of the fans

100 or so doomsday preppers are not likely to make a big difference

Who cares??? The University and Athletic Department does not care at all about what I think, all they care about is my season tix mandatory donation and the cost of my tix. So why should I care about the VOLS???

HAHA this is funny. As an aside, have you seen that show? I am amazed there are that many people out there like that, enough to put together a TV series lol.

hehe

I can say after meeting him, talking with him, and seeing the passion from him in person any dissension amongst the fans will come to a halt. This guy is a winner, a leader, and has everything we have been missing for the last 3 years.

Before the presser almost everyone was ready to burn a mattress on here, after I would say the opinions turned to 80% positive at least. There will always be that 8-10% of the fanbase that is not satisfied with anyone not named Gruden, but realistically at this point and time I think history will look back on this hire extremely favorably. I think Coach Jones will win championships here.

I appreciate you being able to jump right on this train but forgive me if I don't. He may turn out to be a great hire. I give him a 50% chance. Tennessee needed a bid name hire that will attract recruits immediately. I may be wrong but I just don't see it. I will be taking a wait and see approach as I watch the VOLS from afar. Would never cheer against them but am about to the point I could care less to be honest.

So far it would seem Coach Jones is very open to fan involvement and insight into the program. Do you think the negative comments we are seeing and hearing will impact his attitude toward the fans? I think it would be a shame for us to lose what could be the best window into the program we have had in several years.
I never liked Kiffin being hired over Gary Patterson and Brian Kelly, but he made some big staff hires, that helped redeem him. Dooley did a little of that keeping Chaney and hiring Wilcox...who I felt did a bang up job considering the talent/DL size and depth issues he had to work with.

Jones can close the gap somewhat if he made some splash staff hires, but it looks like he's just going to bring most of his staff over and give them that $3mill we were supposed to use to hire "the best staff in the country."

That's going to diminish a lot of this goodwill many have for him. More than anything, it's going to put him behind the 8 ball in recruiting. He'll find that out soon enough.

Bama, LSU, UGA and UF will all be in the Top 10, and we'll be sitting in the 30's. Dooley will get all the blame, when his bringing most of his UC staff over will have just as much to do with it.

The program is finished. Dissension is just a symptom.

This program is one of the oldest football programs in the country. Deffinately one of the oldest stadiums. This is a tradition school.....we will never be "finished" as long as this game is played....

Dissension is a symptom of a lot of bad calls in recent years, and pretty justified. That said, from what I have seen so far reading about CBJ, I don't think he's the type to really care much about what fans opinions are when he hasn't had a chance to show them what he can do yet. He'll be harsher on himself then fans can be. If he can be as successful as I think he beleives he can, we will do great. I admit I have my doubts, for all his prior successes it wasn't at this level....but he has the right mindset and energy...

If you beleive you are finished you are, and no coach or team can think like that, if they do they should leave.

Still not happy with the process at admin level, but I think all things considered we got lucky, maybe very very lucky, as I like Jones better then a few that got offered before him. I like what I see so far, but we will see after a summer where we are at.

Stewart Mandel ‏@slmandel

After all that, Tennessee got a guy they would have been smart to call in the first place. Butch Jones is a star. Knew he'd get big job.

Anyone have a date on that prediction? If not, is Stewart the kind of guy that lies in an awkward attempt to improve his reputation?

This guy is a winner. He is not who I or many others wanted but I definitely would take him over Strong and Fedora. I am in wait and see mode.
