Could it be

In summer camp, Peterman was way ahead of Dobbs as a passer. Unfortunately, every time Petermen steps on the field, the offensive line evaporates under relentless blitzing and everything blows up. Peterman handed that ball off to Marlin Lane and Marlin didn't take it. Not sure what that was about, but read options should not be called when a QB has not practiced with the starters.

They mostly shut down Bama offense until the 4th quarter. Also generated some turnovers. I think the Dline is still the strength of that team.

Uh are you talking about the most recent game between UF and Bama? You know the one where Bama put up 645 yards of offense? At no point in that game did UF come close to shutting Bama down.

All of this. Last year he played against one of the best DL in the country and had a terrible day. Yesterday he steps in against the #12 team after not playing a single game in a year with an inexperienced OL. Peterman barely had time to breathe yesterday.

They gave up yards but generated turnovers. Bottom line is it was a 21-21 game in the third quarter, and not because of UF offense.

Stop judging Josh Dobbs on last season. Auburn had a qb in 2001 that was awful but he led them to an SEC title in 2004. I think it would be incredible to have a three year starter at qb and one that was a 5th year senior. That has been a rarity for the Vols in the last 25 years. Come to think of it, Andy Kelly may have been the last and guess what? He won two SEC titles.
Also, stop setting up kids like Dormandy for failure. Let them get here and allow them to compete. He is a good prospect, but not elite. It takes time for some of these kids. Even Tee Martin was written off prior to 1998.

More excited about Jennings...especially if Urban Meyer was calling for him. Either way, in Butch I trust. Go Vols!

Glad you are only saying this once. LOL. Why are we even talking about Dobbs - he isn't going to see the field this year barring a disaster.

I'm not downing the kid at all, but if he is the future he should be the back up now. He should come in for an injury or if the game is out of hand (either way).

Maybe you're right about the development part and I hope you are. Maybe the back up spot is up for grabs this week?

I was actually looking for Dobbs in the game Saturday after Petersons shaky two series. I didn't know he had been redshirted.

If Dobbs is indeed better than Peterman, and if Peterman was put in the game for three series because they want to give Dobbs a redshirt, then the coaches are idiots. And that is what many of you continue to think.

I choose to think, however, that the coaches are not idiots and that they wanted to do everything in their power to win that game.

It is simply ridiculous to me that many of you think that a freaking redshirt for 3rd stringer Dobbs is worth more than a win at Georgia yesterday for this team. Y'all are crazy.

You don't redshirt until the year is up and you didn't play. Everyone is guessing the plan is to redshirt and it certainly appears that way. The plan can change at any time

I understand that clearly. I was wondering if the staff announced their intentions to red shirt him. Similar to Worley a few yrs ago.

Not that I am aware of. Doubt they want to box themselves into that corner. PS you post was far from obvious that you understood that, hence my post. How about we leave it that?

that Dobbs is just being red shirted and is the reason he is not playing. I would like to think so.

I think this is pretty obvious. We will need him next year and when I went to the open practice he already looked like he had gained major muscle mass. I think the staff is being smart here.
