Could Our Defense Be The Best Ever

They were good and had to be. This D may or may not be that good but it is deeper than that team with a very good chance being as good. This set of tackles overall may be better. Hanyesworth only showed up when he wanted to.

what is the point with saying could this d be the best, or could riggs win the heisman, or could we go undefeated. could, could, could.

lets focus on UAB. that is the first game. then florida. then lsu.

one game at a time.

right now everyone is tied for the best d. lets play some games before we crown these guys.

i know we dont have much to talk about, im just looking from a differnt point of view.

and as long as we kill the COCKS i dont care.

can u believe they showed their spring game on espn 2

crazy.

I think that this year's defense has the potential to be one of the best in the nation if kept healthy? The best ever?.....wouldn't go that far. Remember one of General Neyland's teams in his era shut out every single opponent on the regular season schedule. That's hard to contend with.

Bob Neyland had a shutout regular season in 1939, but the Vols went on to be defeated 14-0 by Southern California in the Rose Bowl on New Year's of 1940.

The Vols did, however, shut out Oklahoma 17-0 in the season preceding on January second, so the Vols did not allow any points during the year of 1939. :good:

Talent-wise, yes, this is one of our best defenses ever. But there is wayyyy more to it than talent, most notably attitude, chemistry, & discipline - not to mention injuries.

We haven't won a dang game yet and I'm already hearing comments about how the season will be a loss if we don't play for the NC. If these guys don't play as a cohesive unit, follow their assignments, & realize that everyone of them has to consistently win their individual battles against top SEC talent on the other side of that line of scrimmage during every play of every game we will be just another underachieving VOL team.

I remember this kind of type: 2002, 1999, 1996. Hype didn't get us anywhere.

I also remember '98, '01, '04. Not a whole lot of type but much more successful seasons that most expected.

That being said, I'm all for getting hyped up, I'm already excited, but its part our fault if these kids get puffed up so high they can't keep their feet on the ground. We're not going to win any games on paper. These kids need a reality check, they've got to fight their @$$ off to achieve the POTENTIAL that they have. Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame don't give a crap where we're ranked. They're going to bring it.

Now if ours guys can keep their heads screwed on straight and realize they're not going to win because we look good on paper or are ranked higher, then we'll have a chance of being one of the best.

A) It is the off-season

B) It's a internet message board

C) Do you really want another post-padding thread?
