Not so fast, Let's see a few more games before we crown the Vol's SEC East contenders.

Not sure if this is same USU team that played other big name schools tight but just watching the Orange we are much faster, more athletic and well coached. We are much better and that's all I care about.

It was REPEATEDLY expressed on here that this WASN'T the same USU team...they did lose a lot...they AND the national media ignored that in analyzing a game AGAINST us...guess it did matter?...NOW?...after the fact? :dunno:

Good grief, sure hope the team doesn't read VN

I agree....that USU team looked totally inept on offense to me. It was a good win, but I don't think it really tells us much about the. Vols ability to match up with other SEC teams. 6-6 is still going to be a challenge IMO

This team took care of business in the opener against USU. Defense looked better than expected. Worley looked pretty good. Sutton looked really good and A.J. was an absolute beast! Like with every other team however, the next couple weeks will help put this week's game into perspective, but I think Team 118's future looks bright! And I don't think making a bowl game is a problem. East champs? Nah, don't think so, but I would be ecstatic if they prove me wrong. GBO!

Well stated, bud. The local media in Knoxville that did as well. The Sports Source "experts" were scared to death, except for Sterling and Shazzon. It was actually really funny. They obviously don't check out the teams they are experts about very closely. That, or don't know what they see when they do. lol.

I've said the exact same thing in another thread.

All I'm saying is that, the east winner may not be as clear cut as people think. Obviously, SC dropped the ball to A&M. If UGA drops the ball against SC, then they both are sitting at 1 SEC loss, and a win over them would break a tie breaker if it was needed.

I'm just saying, if we play well, and the dominos fall right, it could work.

I hope you're right but the dawgs looked good and we haven't seen Florida play yet. A lot of football still to be played

Exactly. It's not hard to win in Neyland when it's packed full of people screaming your name, and you're playing against a team that lost a ton of talent, and had nothing but a good QB to carry it.

Oklahoma will be a true test.

And....there's a part of me that thinks we may have held back last night. I think we were going for simple, efficient, and confidence building. Then I think we're going to do the same thing next week against AS, and then I think we're really going to open it up against OK.

I mean, North got 4 catches on 4 balls thrown his way. He's our best receiver, and he got 4 catches?

Plus....I think once we start getting the ball to Pearson more, we will see some magical things happen.

Ball distribution was great last night, but we didn't come close to utilitizing and focusing on our playmakers. Last night was just about settling everybody down, and getting ourselves comfortable and in rhythm. I expect the same next week.

But Oklahoma? We'll come out swinging.
You know I thought the same thing last year, but that opening of the offense never came. I hope that changes this year or I will begin to think that's just our offense.

Things being said on USCe board:

"UT - this is the school we should worry about. Knoxville is a grubby city with nothing to attract players and Tennessee is no hotbed of recruits, but Butch Jones is a top coach. They absolutely demolished Utah State last night and looked good doing it. Their game against UGA later this month in Athens will tell us a lot about how far they have come."

"TENN- I honestly believe is a sleeping giant possibly bigger than where they use to be. Fans and players have bought into what Butch Jones is selling and he is recruiting really well. They have improved facilities and could be really trouble in the next few years."

I normally don't visit opponents boards, but I had to see what other fans were saying about our decisive win last night.

I wish we could pump the brakes a touch. We always do this to ourselves.

Thank you! Took the words right out of my mouth. What we learned last night was that things look promising for our future and Utah St might not be the team they were a couple of years ago. Other than that, still a long way to go.

I find it funny that USC fan calls out Knoxville for being a grubby city with nothing to attract recruits. Columbia is a miserable city in the summertime and really lacks character. Their stadium is at the site of the state fairgrounds.

Good lord seriously? So now because we thrashed USU they are not the same team? Most picked USU to beat us. Attitudes like yours need to change. Why can't you just accept that we trashed a good team? Also there is nothing wrong with people getting excited. Sheesh.

:thud:

None of the above is even close to the point I was making.
I certainly accept we beat a decent team, that lost a good bit of talent from a year or so ago when they were probably a better football team. There is nothing at all wrong about getting excited, I am too. But we should pump the brakes here a little bit with the prognostications of greatness this season. The poster I responded to said it best, we do this to ourselves very year. I'm very optimistic for the future but I understand the reality of where we are as a team and program right now.

UGA will destroy USCe. They truly looked like the best team in the country this weekend. Ran at will and shut down a potent offense. Mason didn't look great but he just has to manage the offense. If USCe can knock them off Spurrier is the best coach in the nation and it would open the East race up. I would have liked to have seen Florida's new offense this weekend.

UG did look really good and I don't look forward to facing a healthy Gurley but the great thing about them is they are always capable of pulling a Georgia.

LOL at USCe fan calling Knoxville a grubby city. Not that I necessarily disagree but since when is Columbia ever been mentioned as a paradise destination?

Anyway, they better hope Spurrier stocks the cupboard before he retires or they will be back to bottom 3 in the East real quick.
