Could we see some Top 25 votes... (merged Vols receive 14 points)

Our best chance of getting ranked early in the season would be if we upset either Oklahoma or Georgia. While pulling out such an upset is not likely, it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. After all we came a few inches away from beating Georgia last year, and I think this team is immensely more talented than last year's team. And as a 3-1 team with a win over either Oklahoma or Georgia, I think we break into the top 25 easily. However, given this team's youth and the gauntlet that we have to run in October and early November, we would be unlikely to retain that ranking throughout the season. We also may have a chance to finish toward the tail end of the top 25 if we can finish the regular season 8-4 and pull off a win in our bowl game to finish the year 9-4. After witnessing our defense on Sunday night, I don't think that 8-4 is out of the realm of possibility if we stay healthy. If we could manage to sneak into the bottom end of the top 25 at the end of this season, it may be a while before we are out of the top 25 again, as I think Butch Jones has this program going in the right direction. Go Vols!

Thanks Jon Wilner, whoever you are. TN #21?? I'll have some of what you're smoking/ingesting.

And we should get a vote from whoever gave Utah St. their T25 vote in the pre-season poll. So that's two at least..

Yes. We will be in top 25 prior to Oklahoma game. The voters love to do that to generate a matchup of ranked teams on TV. Unfortunately it won't last if we get beat by okie, but if we play like we did Saturday, we will beat Oklahoma.

Is that the hair or the boobs talking? Either way, I'm all in for some top 25.

If we beat Ark St. Pretty handily?

Obviously we would have to deal with Oklahoma right afterwards even if we did. Just wondering what you guys think.

Hope not. Last time we broke into the rankings we had a debacle of a game. Let's beat someone good first.

I don't think 12-0 puts us at #1 in the country

Let's not count on that happening, but in the extreme hypothetical we'd at least be a top 5 team. I mean you're talking about wins at Georgia, vs Alabama, Florida (not ready to say they're back but they've had our number for a while), South Carolina, Ole Miss and Mizzou. That's brutal! Of course we'd have to win the SECCG but goodness we'd have to be Top 5 and, by rule, a playoff contender! And I'm sure a few things could happen to put us at #1

Only reason I say so is that we're starting off SO low. All it takes is any other team going 12-0 and we're probably not going to leapfrog them. 12-0 is definitely 1 win away from the playoff, though.

Sadly, I don't believe we'll get anywhere near this.

Memphis got 1 vote, and the fans are rubbing it in to the Tennessee fans. Do they not know that Tennessee would run them off the field?

If we had blown out USU 55-0, who knows? It was a great W, but we left points on the field.

Fourteen votes. I figured we'd get some just judging from the mass overreaction to our win over NC State in 2012. That plus a win over Georgia State somehow had us ranked #23 going into the Florida game.

I am not saying it couldn't happen. Ole Miss plays Vandy. Mizzu plays Toledo, SC plays ECU, OSU plays VT, North Carolina plays San Diego ST, KS ST plays Iowa ST, USCsr plays Stanford, MSU plays Oregon. With a big win and some of these to lose pushes us up the list. Ut is getting a lot of love by manhandling USU the way they did. USU had what many thought a Heisman hopeful at qb.

Well it looks like the Vols are turning some heads after the win on Sunday. Garnered 14 votes in the AP Poll.

:good!:

Glad we are getting some recognition. 14 votes is nothing to sneeze at after as bad as the Vols have been over the past few years.

I don't think we have received any votes at all since the loss to florida in 2012 (the week before was the first time we were ranked since 2008 preseason).

I wouldn't put too much stock in rankings right now. Heck, LSU received a 1st place vote and even I call BS on that, WTF was that guy watching?

and that was one of the two guys to put us in the poll
