U know guys if things dont change if not this year or next is it possible that Good ole home boy Fulmer gets the boot. We seen it before with good ole Johnny is it possible. U do know we have a pretty young and inexperienced athletic director that probably doesnt care about the past with Fulmer. Myself i wouldnt be surprised to see the Chief takeover he acts like he may have the guts to get the people in here to get the job done. Whats everybodys opinion

I would guess that it will take 3 5-loss seasons before PF has to pack his bags.

He's now losing to the big boys in the SEC regularily (last year was a fluke). When the small frye like the Vandys. Kentuckys and Memphis's (? this year) start beating us then Phil will be sent packing

If u remember the Vandys and Kentuckys almost got us last year is that a sign of what might happen this year

"Get Your Sea Legs"
Meaning: "To adjust to a new situation."
Background: The term dates back to the days when sailing ships ruled the high seas: a new sailor was said to have "gotten his sea legs" when he could walk steadily across the deck of a ship in stormy weather.

If CPF were to be let go, what names does the AD Hamilton have in his past or present for that matter be a possible replacement?

Is Chavis not a possible hire, i do remember another coordinator that got a shot over ten years ago :bad:

We are at least a year and a half from this even being a possible issue.

You have to remember that in the last 2 coaching changes @ UT, the next coach was a foregone conclusion before the old one was let go. Who would we get to replace Phil? I really don't want to bring in some outsider who's gonna stay three to five years then leave for the nfl, and I don't think we have anybody in the UT family who is ready to be the hc.

Chief is an awesome defensive coordinator, but I'm not sure if he's a good choice as hc or not. How is he as a recruiter?

Most of our head coaches have come from "within."

But Fulmer's worst season is still better than Johnny Majors' career win % of .572

Major's only had 2 10 win (or more) seasons in 16 years at U.T. and 3 10 win(or more) seasons in 28 years of coaching.

Bill Battle had 3 10 win(or more) seasons at UT in 7 years.

Fulmer has 8 10 win(or more) seasons in 12.5 years.

Doug Dickey never had a 10 win season in his 15 years of coaching.

Bowden Wyatt only had 1 10 win season at UT, and only 2 10 win(or more) seasons in his 16 years of coaching.

Neyland only had 5 10 win seasons in 21 years of coaching.

And out of the 20 head coaches that we have had, Fulmer, Majors, Neyland, Battle, and Wyatt are the only ones with atleast 1 10 win season.

So, I think we are taking some things for granted. JMO

Was Majors teams this poorly coached and did they underachieve like this one. We gotta face the facts this coaching staff has got very complacent since 98, maybe this year might open their eyes, hope so

But Majors had to clean up the mess that Battle left behind.

I don't see Chavis as a HC. Few defensive coaches ever get there, Chavis will not upset that trend.

Is Fulmer vulnerable? Of course he is as is any CEO is. Bottom line is bottom line.

It will take at least another year of questionable play before Phil is really on the hot seat. Prudent minds know it is better to fix than to change.

The problem with every list that I see is that people focus solely on X and O coaches.

Majors went 9-1-2 in 1985
Then went 7-5 in 1986
Then went 10-2-1 in 1987
Then went 5-6 in 1988
Then went 11-1 in 1989

They could name a roller coaster at Six Flags "The Majors" with that 5 year stretch.

Atleast Fulmer's never lost less than 8 games.....yet

I could be wrong but I think college football has changed a lot over the years. It is now a big money business. With Tennessee Football supporting so much of the total Athletic Dept. If big boosters or doners decide that our team is on a decline and stop giving money, or Neyland Stadium is only carrying 70,000 fans, or TV networks decide not to carry us as much, and Bowl games decide we don't travel well to second rate bowls. I don't think it would take too many bad seasons for a change to be made. Just a thought.

Very true . . . Majors probably wouldn't have made it past about his 5th or 6th year in today's game.

Nobody is as successful as Tom Osbourne!!

In 25 years at Nebraska, he never lost less than 9 games. 15 10(or more) win seasons. Not one season did he ever lose more than 3 games. And that only happened 8 times. He went 60-3 in his last 5 years. And then he retired. And his offense was Vanilla, but he and his assistant coaches taught their players how to execute. I wish we could find the next Tom Osbourne.

...and it took Tom forever to win a National title.

He won 3 and left no doubt in any one of them.

The "Bear" only won 2 NC's when he did not lose a game in a season.

Bottom line is that it is up to Thunder and the Oil Man as to what happens to Fulmer. As long as he doesn't insult them (like Majors did) he will be here for the duration.

That's the point that a lot of people seem to forget . . . on field performance was about 10% of the reason that Majors got run.
