PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Carl Pickens
Wide Receiver (1989-91)

Carl Pickens was a staple in the Vols' offense during his three seasons at Rocky Top and earned national recognition his junior year with an All-America nod in 1991.
Pickens caught 49 passes for 817 yards during his junior campaign for an average of 17.9 yards per catch. His 79.73 receiving yards per game led the SEC.
Quarterback Andy Kelly hooked up with Pickens for an 87-yard touchdown against Auburn which was the longest pass play in school history at the time. His numbers the previous year, however, were even better when he had 53 catches for 917 yards as he led the Vols in receptions and yards both seasons. He played both ways in 1989, recording four interceptions in four games at free safety and was named the Defensive MVP of the 1990 Cotton Bowl.
Pickens was the No.1 draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1992 NFL Draft after deciding to bypass his senior campaign at UT. He would go on to be named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press that year before setting Bengals' single-season records for both receptions (99) and touchdown catches (17) in 1995. Pickens later surpassed his own record by recording 100 receptions in 1996. In his nine NFL seasons, Pickens recorded 540 receptions for 7,129 yards and 63 touchdowns, earning Pro-Bowl selections in 1995 and 1996. His 63 touchdown receptions were a franchise record until surpassed by Chad Johnson in 2010.

The Erik Ainge to Lucas Taylor connection was fun to watch in 07. Shame our QB situation was so bad in 08 otherwise he could have had another solid season.

Hey quick question. I know Worley's already got the starting job, but I can't keep getting Joshua Dobbs out of my head. I've been to a few beech high school games so I already know we'll be giving Hurd the ball most of the time, but someone's gotta get Alton Howard, Marquez North, and Josh Malone the ball. So who do y'all think? Dobbs or Worley? Go Vols!

Dobbs may be third string and red shirt to save a year of eligibility and polish up a bit more.

Welcome to the board!

Thanks man! A friend of mine showed me this site... Gotta thank him later. I'm hoping somehow we can pull up Torrance Gibson in a Vols jersey next year, but that may be asking too much.

SEC Network has us going 5-7 with wins vs Vandy, Chatt, Utah St., Arkansas St., and Kentucky.

Now for my very biased opinion

Vols beat a top 15 team last year in South Carolina and took the #9 at the time Georgia Bulldogs into the final seconds. Now we can't even beat Ole Miss?? Im used to it by now, but the vols are always the underdog. I'm thinking we can at least win 2 games of either South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, or Ole Miss. Anyone else agree or am I just talking out of an Alabama dictionary?

I don't know how to help you with this........

Facebook him and see if he wants to get coffee or something maybe?

I bought tickets for the Utah State game in section C, row 43. I know this is on the visitor sideline, but will i be surrounded by aggie fans? (please say no) Also thoughts on these seats?

I'm guessing there will be 25-40 Aggie fans at Neyland.
