Tomorrow begins the Countdown to Kickoff.

This year, I will be counting down MY top 150 victories in UT history. I based my list on several factors, including ranked wins, upsets, program changing wins, last second wins, wins that brought about national spotlight, etc……..

Game day will be Day 0……I’ll have something interesting for that day. As always, I hope you enjoy and let the debate start tomorrow..
Thanks Peay, you outdid yourself this year.

I have to admit, I love this season, but I do miss this thread. Thanks, again.

#106 - 30-16 vs #21 UCLA (1991)

With temperatures on the field at 115 degrees, survival was the main goal as the #11 Vols hosted UCLA.

Despite having its ground game shut down all day, Tennessee never trailed. Tennessee scored first on a 34-yard pass from Andy Kelly to Carl Pickens in the first quarter. Darryl Hardy blocked a punt that lead to a quick score, Tracy Smith returned an interception for a 38 yard TD, and a short run by JJ McCleskey was enough for the victory. Kelly threw for 275 yards and Pickens had 104 yards receiving. Earnest Fields and Shazzon Bradley combined for 21 tackles, as UT held UCLA to less than 300 yards of offense.

The victory showed the country how good UT could be in 1991. Huge upcoming games vs ranked teams were on the schedule and the Vols looked poised for a great season.

I just read that during this 1991 UCLA game, Smokey VI suffered heat exhaustion in the 115 degree temperatures on the field. Smokey was listed on the Vols injury report 😆 until he returned later in the season. A kennel mate named "Woody" took over for him while he recovered. Smokey giving his all for Tennessee.

Was in DD row 1 for that game, hot as hell. Sportscenter was reporting on Smokey’s condition for at least a week.

#38 - 24-6 vs #6 UCLA (1989)

After a terrible’88 season, and a lackluster win vs Colorado St, nobody had any idea what was going to happen with the rest of the ‘89 season. Now, UT had to travel to UCLA as a 17 point underdog.

Sterling Henton got the Vols on the board early with a short TD run, and then Reggie Cobb and Chuck Webb took over. Cobb-Webb was born.

The Vols only needed 108 passing yards from Henton, as Webb ran for 134 and Cobb had 78. Webbs two touchdowns were the difference in the dominant win.

The Vols defense held the Bruins scoreless until the fourth quarter and kept their vaunted rushing game in check all night.

It was the first win ever at the Rose Bowl stadium, the first win ever on the west coast, and the springboard to a successful 1989 season…….

Someone called CFB Archive posted a video of our 1989 UCLA game about a year ago. I've looked for the game several times over the years without luck. I didn't think this was a TV game. Maybe this is from a PAC-10 version of the SEC's old Jefferson Pilot regional broadcasts?

A great win at Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. It was Chuck Webb's debut. (Webb enters the game at 26:29 (the announcer thinks he's Reggie Cobb on his first carry.) Majors shuffled tailbacks from that point on and deployed the soon to be famous "Cobb-Webb" combo formation later in the game. You may also recognize a certain popular Neyland Stadium DJ.

The '89 Vols finished 11-1, Top 5, SEC co-champs, and capped it off with huge win over Southwest Conference champion Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl (#270).
