First off, I rarely venture over to these parts, so apologies if this has been discussed or so ridiculous that it isn't worth discussing, but any chance he wins SEC coach of the year? Taking a Preseason 11th or 12th pick in the SEC and having them at #4 ain't too shabby. .. I'll hang up and listen

He will get it next year. I think Stokes and Maymon will get 1st team and maybe golden and McRae will get 2nd team.

no way. no vol will be first team this year. maymon will be 2nd team at best. next year, now that might be different.

He has done a great job of even getting the Vols to the position we are in. Started off slow...but once we got into SEC games the Vols are still in the thick of things to get a bye in the tourny. Who would have thought that? From being picked #11 to this....he deserves a mention for sure.

Yeah meant next year. Maymon deserves 2nd team this year though, but I doubt he will get it.

any coach in the country can win with the talent that is at Ky, other that crying to the refs about his players literally taking a beating, what his cal done to deserve coach of the year?

I have never thought of Coach Cal as a great coach, great recruiter yes, but great coach no. He has proven he can coach this year and if UK wins out he deserves it.
Coach Zo has done an admirable job with this young Vols team, but losses to UGA and APSU are going to be hard to overcome. If we would have won those two games, I think there is a stronger argument for the Vols to make the NCAA's and what ever post season awards comes with it.

if the vols had not blew those early season non conference games and would have beat memphis in maui he would have been coach of the year in sec.cal will get it but like other poster said if you get 4 or 5 five star and top 25 players coming in ever year you dont have to coach much

I would say he deserves it if there was an Overall Coach of the Year, and then a Homecourt Coach of the Year.

I honestly do not see how he is even considered with only one SEC road win, and some AWFUL loses at the beginning of the season. Yes he got Stokes, which was huge. But I cannot see the justification for COTY.

Wrong any coach would never have the players that He can recruit.

No offense OP, but much of Martin4 success is due to the rest of the SEC being atrocious outside of KY. That said, Martin looks like a good hire and the kids play hard for him

you might be right, not any coach can or will arrange to have their recruits pass their SAT's, or make backroom deals to and pay that kind of money for 5 star recruits. Any coach that has had to forfeit the amount of wins that he's been responsible for at both UMass and memphis should not be considered for any national award. What's it saying to the rest of society, It's OK to cheat!!
