Cowboys and Titans agree to Pacman trade

OK some questions and then I will stop debating this topic.
1. Do you trust the guy completely?
2. Do you respect the guy?
If you can't answer yes to both, why defend him or want him on your team? I guess every player or employee is a risk/reward situation. Does the risk outweigh the potential reward? And not just monetary risk here, I mean the damage to the reputation of your company as a whole. And in this case the entire NFL. Back in my younger days I didn't care what players did off the field as long as my team won. I didn't see the problems that it caused. But as I get older I guess the character of a man means more to me than his 40 time or how many INT's he has. I would like to be able to tell my son, "Go play like that guy right there, he does it the right way"

Risk: Pacman gets cut and pays back his money.

Reward: A Pro-Bowl caliber CB and a punt returner that averaged more yards per return than Devin Hester in 2006.

Dallas doesn't have a good reputation to begin with. This makes them look like hypocrites for cutting Quincy Carter.

The NFL's reputation will not take a hit. It didn't when Irvin was caught with cocaine, it didn't when Leonard Little killed a woman with his car and it didn't when Lawrence Phillips was drafted.

If they are problems they get dealt with.

But only athletes get second chances...

1. Because they can do what other cannot
2. There's a ton of money to be made of them

It's stupid, but it's a fact. Only a professional athlete could get away with killing someone while driving drunk and get a slap on the wrist.

As far as Dallas' rep goes, the people that hate us are going to hate us regardless. Besides, if the Titans had cut Jones, you would have seen a few teams teams attempt to work out some kind of deal with him. They just didn't want to risk losing something in the process. That's why Dallas pursued the trade before he was cut.

Either way, he knows this is his last shot(if re-instated) and he'll be on a very short leash. I hope he can straighten up, but even as a Dallas fan I have my doubts.

You left out Hollywood Henderson.
It's not that he's any worse, I think he is but that's not the point. My point is I am sick of people getting break after break just because they can play ball. If Adam Jones was a factory worker or an accountant or an x-ray tech, he would not only be unemployed, but pretty much unemployable. I am sick of good morals and good character being a distant second to athletic ability. Give me a quality guy with average skills that I can depend on to give me 100% effort every day and will not be a problem over a superstar caliber athlete that can't seem to go to the drive-thru without the possibility of a drive-by and doesn't give effort unless he wants to. Yeah I might lose games, but in my book, dignity, class and respect mean a whole lot.
I ask you this, if you had to tell your young son to idolize and emulate a sports figure, would it be Adam Jones? I think not. If that's your choice of role model, go ahead and call the adoption agency because you are not fit to be a parent.

Yeah, regular joes with no criminal convictions have a really hard time finding employment. Explain to me how being seen in strip clubs is worse than being caught multiple times with cocaine.

I trust and respect him more than Shawn Merriman. That didn't stop him from only getting a suspended for a few games and then making the Pro Bowl, anyway.

As a Cowboys fan for over 30 years, I cannot describe the nausea I feel right now. And the deal is only in principle, nothing is signed yet. If they sign him, my jersey will be set on fire in my driveway.

i sympathize with you.

if i was a Cowboys fan i would not only burn my gear but myself as well.

Pacman is no worse than Nate Newton, Michael Irvin, Leon Lett etc
Yes he is.

This really isn't going to work out... Pac-Man hasn't even played in a long while, and he's already starting to dig into the locker room.

I'm fine with this whole Jones shtick of taking in troubled players, but this one really isn't going to work. TO has even worked out pretty well so far. But this just won't. At least we didn't give up anything to get him and he's taking up minimal cap space. That's about the only positive of the situation, though.

Oh, and you have to be impressed that the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since I was a kid, and still have a gang of haters. They keep me going. :peace2:

The first three words were directed at you, the rest of the post was a general statement.

And yeah, Vader, I can agree that a lot of Cowboys fans are bandwagoners and/or tards. The legit longtime ones such as myself and superdave are the decent ones.

Thank you. But seriously, I cannot support a team that signs this guy. Not anymore. Call me whatever you want. I dunno, maybe I'll have to eat my words. Actually I hope I do. I have been a die hard Cowbys fan since the mid 70's. But enough is enough. I may just stop watching pro sports completely except for NHRA.

I don't really recall hearing anything about Pac Man being a polarizing force in the lockerroom. Even if he were, the Cowboys have already managed to handle the king of that department pretty well, so I'd be willing to bet Jones won't be a problem.

You seriously underestimate how repellent the Cowboys and all their frontrunning fans were back in the 1970s when many of us were kids. There's an entire age demographic full of guys who will hate them forever because of all that crap.

I've been there, with the Portland Trail Blazers in the early part of the decade. The few times a year I got to go a game was huge for me. Then you saw what they turned in to. I actually decided to root for the Mavericks for a while. And take my word for it... Signing a guy like Pac-Man doesn't warrant stopping rooting for your team.

I'm 20 years old, so I wouldn't know.

And I did recall hearing some rumors about Pac-Man's early influence in the locker room so far, but they were just that. We'll see how it goes. I don't really compare him to TO, though. They are both potentially cancerous teammates but in very different ways.

The locker room problems surrounding Adam had a lot more to do with players feeling he was getting special treatment than anything else.
