Crazy Stats about the 2001 Canes

Looking at the pro bowl roster and remembering the previous thread, I noticed a crazy statistic about the 2001 Canes.

Almost a decade later, not only do their 5 pro bowl players give them as many as any college team (Tennessee has 5 total), but only 2 of the 32 NFL teams have more, with those two teams being the number 1 seed in each conference. So in other words, that roster accounts for as many pro bowl players as any of the teams still in the hunt for the Super Bowl.

After realizing this I got curious and looked up some past seasons. Last year, they had 7 pro bowl players, which was as many as both teams playing in the Super Bowl.

After checking the roster, I counted 12 players that made at least one pro bowl, with most having been named to multiple. I may have missed some as well. The number would probably be higher, too, if not for some injuries. Absolutely ridiculous. How on earth does a coach get that kind of talent on a single roster?

Those stats are nasty.

The one that Always has me completely dumbfounded; that 2001 team eventually had 17 first rounders drafted. 17.

And just think, one of the players on that team is no longer with us. No doubt the numbers would increase with Sean Taylor around.

If there's anything redeeming about that LSU game, it's the fact that we didn't have to run into this buzzsaw.

Even more insane is the fact that Damione Lewis, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Dan Morgan left the year before.

Imagine an offense with Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Andre Johnson.
