Crazy Stats about the 2001 Canes

Except Boston College. Great teams get lucky though.
And Virginia Tech, although the Canes were coming off two blowout wins and were up big at halftime in Blacksburg. I think they were mentally in Pasadena for the second half of that game.

For all the lazy people.
The only thing about that roster that wasn't great. Although there wasn't a lot of room to improve, I think they would have been even better with Davis.

Too bad CPF didn't prepare his team and make the adjustments necessary against LSU.

Tennessee may have still lost against Miami, but it would have been a much better game than watching Nebraska get hammered. The Cornhuskers did not deserve to be there.

If Miami doesn't get left out in 2000 despite beating FSU head to head, and Davis doesn't leave for Cleveland (perhaps the only guy to leave a good job for a team in Cleveland), Miami very likely wins three straight national championships.

An unbelievable amount of talent Miami had.

Washington beat Miami tho

IIRC, it was an early season loss (perhaps the first game?). Miami won out and beat FSU. Not to mention, Miami was #2 in both polls, yet somehow managed to get jumped by FSU in the final week in the BCS.

It was early, but Washington finished with the same record and only loss was on the road to a top 10 Oregon team.

Regardless, Miami found themselves #2 in both polls heading into the final week, and a team they beat, jumped them in the BCS standings.

They had a legitimate argument to be in Miami (Orange Bowl). So did Washington, but the earlier you lose a game, the better. Going into the final week, OU #1, Miami #2, FSU #3, Wash #4.

They all win, and FSU jumps a team they lost to. It would have been as if Miami jumped Washington had Washington been #2.

I argued this in another thread and nobody seemed to get it. Of course if it was the Vols there would be all kinds of threads about how they were screwed.

I understand all of this. Still, Washington was the team that got screwed.

I understand all of this. Still, Washington was the team that got screwed.

Billingsley had Washington at #10. Sagarin had them at #8, and Peter Wolfe ranked the Huskies at #11.

OU, FSU, and Miami were top three across the board.

The final BCS standings looked like this:

2) Florida State 5.37
3) Miami 5.69
4) Washington 10.37

To be honest, Washington wasn't even thought to have a chance unless both Miami and FSU lost.

I understand thinking Washington was screwed because Washington>Miami>FSU, but in the final weeks of the '00 season, it was a FSU-Miami battle.

Just because Washington was getting screwed the whole way doesn't mean they don't have the most reason to complain. Not only did they beat Miami, but they beat another team that finished 11-1.

I would just like to affirm the opinion that the '08 Gators were sooo much better than this team. They weren't really even THAT great!
