This will sound crazy, but honestly I'm at a lost on the Officials performance in every one of our games so far this year. This is especially difficult to even say, because I officiated for many years, and would laugh if someone ever said this to me (back then). Is it possible, someone in the SEC Administrative anarchy is not happy with our NCAA punishment? Are we being punished on the field?

I told you it is a crazy thought, but the officiating has been SOOOOOOO bad, I'm at a loss. I can't even begin to think this could happen, but in today's crazy world, who knows.

I think Heupel shat in someone’s swimming pool.

Its not only TN games where officiating odd bad. Its happening all over CFB. Asystemic problem.

I think the game is moving to fast. There has to be a ref dedicated to each portion....1 or 2 watching the line, 1 on each sideline perhaps.. 2 or 3 on the sidelines following recivers....then 2 following the ball and tackle...not sure. But something's gotta give. Either let them play or call the penalties..

NCAA fault for that clock rule this year

I’ve wondered if our fast paced offense makes it harder on the officials. Potentially more missed calls cause they are struggling to be in position on time, or exhausted from all the running. 🤷🏻‍♂️

They should be in better shape. If you are hired to call a game you should have the ability to change with the game. This isnt the 90s or early 2000s or Kentucky where you are running 1 play every 3 minutes.

That would be a good explanation except it doesn’t explain the 40 missed holding penalties on Bama’s offense

Seriously, there are a dozen boo-hoo threads about the refs. They sucked just like every week. They were trash on TSIO and have been. They were dogshit like last week, this week, and they will be next week. Time to move on and stop being babies about the refs.

Tennessee got their tails whooped by Alabama for the entire second half of the game. They bullied every person on that field that Tennessee had. That's the what happened. No flags could have been thrown on the red zone drives that resulted in 3 points or less, the fumble 6, the 4 unanswered scores in the second half, or the dead offense. Same for Florida. The refs didn't lose that game. Tennessee got mollywhopped.

I use to be glad when we had SEC refs especially when I would watch other confernces. I didn't think the SEC refs were anywhere near perfect, but I thought they did a better job than other leagues. The last couple of years it seems like the quality of our officials has declined. I wonder if there has been a change in the training or something. There are alot of the officials that have been calling for quite a few years and they seem to get worse. There use to be one or two plays that seemed to be blown calls a game, but now it seems like there are many blown calls a game. I wonder if the SEC has declined in their grading of officials after the game or the people grading the officials are not as competent as they use to be.

There's a class system and media darlings. Those "names" that bring in the eyeballs and money. We aren't among them. We're with the great unwashed and that's why I just shake my head in disbelief when folks want Heupel to go nuclear on SEC officials. It's tough enough now. I can only imagine the bama calls going against us in every game going forward. Just ask Vitello how his run in with an ump and some of his players actions toward the umps worked out for them. From tight zones to scheduling to seeding, we've been getting smacked for the last couple of years. There are battles worth pursuing then there's taking shots at the officials. That's a fight not worth even considering. Unwinnable....period.

What this really boils down to is an attempt to manipulate rules and how games are called in order to speed things up so they can cram more and more commercials into the same block of time. To hell with the quality of the game we love. The only thing that matters is grabbing every advertising buck possible.

They already do that . . . but I think your original point is very valid. It's just getting harder and harder to effectively officiate the game and you're seeing the gap widen between the part time officials and the elite athletes. I don't think it's a grand conspiracy. It's just a sign of the times. Officiating all that action is just getting harder as the athletes get bigger and faster and more teams are using the entire field and going as fast they can.

As some famous player once said, " you can call holding on every play". Same thing for PI. Bad calls happens in the pros as well. There is your garden variety of holding but Saturday Bama's O- line was actually taking down our guys and nothing was called. I agree with others who say our coach needs to be more animated on the sidelines when holding is missed or bad calls in general. I think the ref's are intimidated by Satin when he barks at them on the sidelines.

2 things: 1, the rules haven’t changed but the way the game is played has. O lineman use their hands to control the d linemen. Used to be you couldn’t do that. You had to keep your hands off of the d linemen or it was holding. Dbs couldn’t touch a receiver or impede the route. Now they chicken fight from the snap until the ball arrives. PI and holding are now “judgment “ calls.
2, the CFP generates millions of dollars of conference revenue. Each conference will protect its cash cow.
Go back and look at some old college ball games on YouTube. Today’s game is almost unrecognizable. It’s virtually impossible to referee a game today with the liberal interpretation of the rules.
With all that said, the refs did a horrible job last Saturday and Bama still sucks. GBO!

as a former official, positioning is vital. a few feet difference makes the angle change. but with that said, so many of these ??? calls show the official right there looking at the play.

Great comments regards officiating and changes in the game. Given the importance to America of the top 25 in College Football and other athletic leagues, conferences, and programs, we need to accept the fact that the game is more important than how long it takes to play it and networks/commercials. I really don't care if the game last 4 hours instead of three and that bumps into other games or whatever. The calls have to be correct and not a total sell out like we see over and over again. Again, I am 100% in agreement the Bama-UT game the other night was an officiating joke. CJH knows it was a joke. The players watch the film the week after and know it was a joke. Either change the rules, the reviews, and the officials or just tell everyone the games are rigged and live with it.

Basically much like UMPs not tracking baseballs as well as pitchers throw harder with more spin....but baseball adjust with electroic strike zone and its helped immensely..not sure what can help in football or basketball for that matter

If LSU even remotely challenges Bama, I believe you’ll see the officials do what they did Saturday against the Vols. And if Georgia comes into Knoxville undefeated, I believe you’ll see more of the same there as well.
There’s only two SEC teams with a shot at CFP and we all know who they are.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I sometimes wonder if CJH is in their ears too much, or if he says some disrespectful stuff and makes them mad. That would annoy the crap out of me if I were calling the game.

OK conspiracy theorist here: What's to prevent an official from giving their brother-in-law say $500 to bet on the game and later gets paid back later? Just saying. Don't think there's any way to stop that if it even ever happens. Well, we know one thing, it's safe bet to bet on Alabubba if they play in Tuscaloosa.

1. The hold on Baron on the long td pass.
2. The dpi no-call on Squirrel at the end.
3. The hold on Castles where we had to settle for three.

That’s a seventeen point swing in just three missed calls. There were many more. Yes, the refs affected the outcome of the game, that is an incontrovertible fact. It is not mutually exclusive with the fact that Tennessee made some grave errors in coaching and execution.
