Are credit reports for employment an invasion of privacy?

same thing. people on drugs are more likely to steal from the company. we had a guy who falsified clients statements and stole a bunch of money to fuel his drug habit.

An alcoholic could do that as well, or someone who's kid is sick or spouse is sick. If people are going to be crooks or thiefs they will find a way to steal. There are plenty of theifs who are not on drugs.

I see and understand all of your reasons, I just don't think its a companies business what their employees do outside of work. Is there a test to see if that employee is going to steal from the company? Going to assault another employee?

I understand the notion....but the company is a private organization. They can do what they want, as long as it is legal and not discrimatory.

there are lots of personality tests that are given to potential employees during the interview process.

And just because one may slip by is no reason not to catch the ones you can.

i'd argue that those on drugs are far more likely than average to commit a crime. it's all a numbers game.

Absolutely they can and I would not want the govt to stop them. But as I was just thinking where does the company's investigtion stop? Should my employer be able to look at my posts on volnation.com, look at my facebook page, look to see if I have ever cheated on my wife? My bigger point is like with big govt, where does it stop?

You gotta be careful about what you put online. A kid in Wisconsin was recently arrested for underage drinking because of a large number of photos he uploaded onto his FB page was viewed by a cop.

Couldn't make it easier for a PD to generate revenue. Idiot kid is the judge, jury, executioner on himself with that one.

You would be surprised how many resumes I have seen with inappropriate emails on them. It's just stupid.

yea, my fiancee works for the county workforce center as a career counselor and has shown me a couple of the email addresses she has come across. unbelievable!

I went and grabbed a new hotmail acct with just my name so I could put it on my resume. I was afraid utvolpj @xxxx.com wouldn't be seen as professional enough.

With the job market like it is now every little error can be fatal

That is the smart, easy, free thing to do. There just isn't any excuse for putting a stupid email on one's resume.
