Crew Chiefs swap cars at HMS

The hits keep coming: the cars stay with the CCs meaning, Gordon get's Mark's old cars, Dale get's Gordon's old cars, and Mark get's Dale's old cars.

The 5/88 (Formerly the 25) has always received substandard equipment compared to the 24/48 teams, plus I got another text alert saying the pit crews will be staying with the crew chiefs.

if Evernham returned would Gustafson move to the 88? assuming Letarte moves back to the garage.

I disagree, they've always had substandard drivers in those cars. Kyle Busch did just fine in the 5 car, so has Mark Martin. Terry Labonte won a championship in that car. It's when they put a Dale Jr. or Casey Mears in the car that it seems substandard.

I would also add that the 6 car at Roush went to crap as soon as they put a crappy driver in the car.

These are facts. I'm still just pissed about the whole situation, dating back to when Hendrick decided to move personel from the 5 to the 88. What a waste.

the equipment is the same in all the cars. Do you really think Hendrick is giving Jr worse equipment than the others?

I think Ray either returns as a consultant to Hendrick (more specifically maybe the 88 team, but probably the entire organization) or Rick said today Ray has been helpful for the engine department.

I could see Ray returning to HMS as engine builder for the 24 team.

This is most likely. I doubt Ray ever "get's his hands dirty" again, meaning he builds engines, works on the cars, etc. Just a consultant or manager of some sort.

I was hoping Jr would get Gustafson but I wasn't holding my breath. I'm as big a Jr. fan as you will find but the problem lies with the driver. No crew chief is going to change anything unless you get somebody in there that will not take any crap from him. Tony Sr. needs to be on the pit box with him. He was winning races then and I'm pretty sure he could start winning with Tony Sr. again. JMO

Even with Jr being in the same garage as Jimmie that won't do Jr any good as he'll still finish out of the Dirty dozen in 2011! Jr is washed up! If it's not the car, then who is it? The best 2 cars(#48 & #24) in HMS are now broken up. Seems that Jimmie has more drive then Jeff, but I know Jeff wants to win another Championship before he retires. He could just well do that.

Keep in mind that no cars were broken up. The real switch is not the crew chiefs, it's the drivers. Basically, they'll take Mark's cars and put Dupont decals on them and Jeff will drive them. The same goes for Earnhardt and Martin. That's why they moved Earnhardt to the 48 shop and Gordon to the 5 shop because they were the only ones moving, not the cars or crews.

All the chassis and engines are built in the same shops, the final assembly is done in the individual shops with race ready prep being done by each crew. How engines are allocated I do not know, but each is dynoed and some are more equal than others.
