Criticism about variations in events

It was a witnessed by a bunch of people who probably have never been even close to combat trying to explain what they were seeing aka "the fog of war". In a decade or so when some retired Seal writes a book on it you will know what happened.

What is even better are the people who are trying to act like there should be complete clarity since one of the operatives had a camera mounted on his helmet.

Live combat feeds, whether they come from the ground, from Ravens, Shadows, and/or Predators are incredibly confusing to anyone who does not view them with the proper contextual background.

An inquiry would be stupid. The only criticism I have of the WH is how they released information on the specifics of the operation. They should have known reports in the first 24 hours weren't going to be accurate. In hindsight, they shouldn't have released anything and let information leak out through other sources. A statement like "We are pleased with the outcome, but won't go into specifics of the operation" would have been better. If they were releasing information for political points they should rightly get dinged for it.

Overall though, the execution and decision making leading up to raid was handled as it should have been, IMO.

This. I'm not even sure how the woman being used as a human shield originated. Honestly I heard a woman was killed then all of the sudden on the news she was a human shield. Part of the problem is the media takes certain facts and goes in all directions. One channel says something may have happened and the next reports it as news.

Carney has struggled, but Im not sure that is altogether his fault.

I personally think he is a very poor choice for this position. But, I've thought that since he took over, well before the Bin Laden news.

He is not very affirmative and misstates things a lot, has to clarify, etc. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that when he steps out there he is very unsteady, as though he and his support staff have not practiced questions and answers ahead of time.

I mean, almost all of the questions they are going to get they can anticipate. Seems to me he needs some staff to sit in his office with him and just flat out practice answering them. Sure doesn't look like they do that, though.

just speculation. . . but we dont' know where the seal guy with the camera was. apparently teh women charged the seals and they shot her in the leg. if she was next to bin laden when she charged i could see how it might look like she was protecting him and using herself as a human shield.

He certainly was not just standing around trying to get the best cinematic (cinema?) quality shots.

Can anybody offer a proper grammar suggestion for this?

When this first happened, I caught a guy, some sort of special forces expert, on one of the talk shows. Wish I could remember who it was.

At any rate, he made a comment that did not really register with me until seeing the threads pointing out some of the inconsistencies in the version of events being told, i.e. was he armed, did he have a gun near him, did he lunge for a gun, did the woman jump in front of him or go at the SEALs, etc.

The comment was that it was likely that we would see a combination of vagueness and contradiction in descriptions about it in the days and weeks following the event, and that it is on purpose.

His point was that it is done to create some uncertainty on the part of other terrorist leaders, to keep them guessing, and to prevent any sort of planning on their part. It should be expected as part of basically a disinformation campaign.

Wonder if he wasn't right and that this is what is going on here.

In his response to the question asked by the interviewer, do you think he was being misleading in his answers? Do you think that maybe, he was adding in more confusion to the mix... to throw our enemies off even more?
