i agree. the kid was trying to make a play. i want guys in the game like that. however, i think the problem was he failed to understand the situation.
It depends on what he was changing the play to. If it was a deep pass down the middle, that would have had essentially the same effect as a punt.

It probably would have been a good idea to try and get the first down. They way our defense was bending over for Syvelle Newton, I didn't want the Cocks to have any more possessions.

how do we know he wasn't simply calling a different running play? it could have (and probably was a run directly up the gut) and he was calling a play to the outside or something. I like that kind of guts

I like freshman who let the coaches decide how the game is going to end.

Crompton went to an automatic check off, which would have been a fade. That's what Fulmer said. CPF said he did the right thing, but that they didn't want that play in that situation. It wasn't Crompton's fault.
