I heard that Hardegree has been given the 2nd spot in the QB order. Is this true? If so, what happened to Crompton?

Given that he's been coached all spring by that coaching icon David Mini-Fulmer, I figure he's leaving college to wait until he's eligible for the NFL Draft. No reason to risk injury. Merely having been coached by Mini-Fulmer for a couple of months should assure him of being a top 5 pick.

Hardegree, believe it or not, had a really good spring and has the experience factor over Crompton. I'd say that when it comes down to it, Crompton will be the one seeing the snaps as a backup this fall.

Crompton is obviously considered the "next starter" at UTK. But, Hardagree has VASTLY improved since arriving on campus and has more experience and practice time then Crompton. As a result, he outperformed him in the spring. And as of right now, I would say that if Ainge went down against Cal they would bring Hardagree in before Crompton for the above mentioned reasons. Eventually though, Crompton will get closer to reaching his potential and when he does he will pass up Hardagree.

Hardegree doesn't have much of an arm. In the orange and white game, he threw a deep pass that really hung in the air a while, with very little zip. You could tell it was going to be picked off. Wade saw it coming, stopped and tied his shoelaces, then stood up and made the INT.

Guys, try not to turn this into something major. It is not some sort of "sign" that Crompton is a bust or anything relatively close to that. Cutcliffe and company really like Crompton, and showed well this spring. Hardegree look much improved this spring. If Ainge isn't performing well or gets hurt this fall, Crompton will likely be the guy taking his place.

You down on Coach Cutcliffe? I like him and consider him one of the best OC and QB mentors in the country.(So apparently did Charlie Weiss). Maybe you should just sit out this season.

P.S. Bo was a great tennis player in HS at Jackson. Being a tennis player myself, I know you have to be a good athlethe to excell at that game (probably why I have a career losing record). Remember players like Jay Barker didn't have super strong arms.

Based on what I've read on another board, supposedly Crompton's recovery from shoulder surgery is going to take 2 years-this coming from one of his parents.

Thats the reason Hardegree is being groomed to the no. 2 starter, Cromptons won't be available, or fully recovered from surgery.

Which means its Ainge all the way unless he gets hurt. If he gets hurt like he did when he was a freshmen, a long season, and Fulmer will be under more heat then ever.

Source??? That would certainly be news to most of us.

We should just start Lucas Taylor at QB if Ainge can't cut it. As a high school QB he once rushed for over 500 yards in a single game. At the very least, he'd be fun to watch. I doubt he could do much worse than 5-6.

The last thing the Vols need this year is another QB controversy. Lets all just hope that Ainge is the man this year :banghead:

There are so many reasons this may have happened. BUt first let me say that I hope Bo has improved to the point that if we need him he can step in. That guys, is a good thing. Even you NegaVols should agree with that.

But another thing is that sometimes with young qb's (esp. when you have a def starter for a 2 years ahead of them) you put the 3rd guy in front of them to push them even harder.

That's interesting. The last I saw, Crompton's mom was saying that he was fully recovered and ready to go. Also, he didn't seem to have any problems in Spring practice.

Nice point. I remember one particular "rolling right, throwing left" pass that was on a rope.

oklavol, you have never been told that by one of his parent. That is lie, my friend. I have spoke with his parents on more than one occassion and he is fully recovered from his injury. Absolutely 100%. You should be ashamed for making such a post. He was cleared 100% before spring practice, he had no problems during spring practice, he has had no problems since spring practice, and no problems are expected from now on regarding this particualr injury.

How does Hardegree have more experience than Crompton? Correct me of I'm wrong, but Hardegree he's never played in a real game before. Yes he might do great in summer practice or whatever, but that doesn't always translate to the playing field.

This is the board where it was discussed. There's a whole thread devoted to discussing whether or not his injury will take 2 years to recover or not. Its hard to tell if this is Mrs. Crompton's opinion or not, she only post on the member portion of the board (pay). This is the free thread:

No links to other boards please

I happen to think the concerns are very warranted. It does explain the reason Ainge played so poorly last year, he probably needed a full 2 years to make a complete recovery both physically and mentally from the injury.

To be fair . . . Okla never claimed to talk to a parent and made it clear that he had only read that on another board.
