Croom planning to be more physical

I would like to see him in a Jimmy Graham type role. Split out and owning the seam. No safety or linebacker could cover him.

I hope he plays aggressive when the ball is in the air this year, and doesn't try to shy away from contact. Maybe the coaches have lit a fire under him and he will finally play physical.

I agree with you that if he can't at the very least dominate at the line of scrimmage after 3 years in the program, it's probably not going to ever happen for him. With that said, he could still perfect other areas of his game and become a more polished receiver in the future.

How many years has he been in the program?

He didn't play at all his first yr in the program, and only part-time last year. He has multiple yrs ahead of him. You should chillax. :shades:

Regardless of redshirting his first year, this is still his 3rd year in the program. Physicality still being an issue for him is alarming. It's not impossible to fix, but being physical is a mentality as much as anything. Some come by it naturally, some don't, and he fits in the latter. He's got to learn how to turn it on, and keep it on.
Oh, and he was a starter last year. His numbers just look like he played part time because from what I saw, he had a tough time getting open.
I have always had high hopes for him because his physical tools are through the roof. It seems he just doesn't know how to use them. Although the "now or never" comment earlier is a bit extreme, in a sense this is the year he needs to prove he's not soft or he just may get left behind.

People are so dramatic when it comes to Croom. You all make it sound like he's a 5th year senior who can't fight his way out of a paper bag and who has never produced.

Again, he has played one year. In that year he was our third leading receiver. And he only started 7 games. He can improve, nobody doubts that. But the talk is way more pessimistic than is justified.

Croom will be fine. I think he just needed another year of coaching with Coach Z, and the added competition probably didn't hurt either.

I expect big things from all of our receivers this year. I'm even hoping that Bowles and Gamble get in on the action. Would love to have about 10 productive receivers on roster.

Can you imagine if Croom, Pig, North, Malone, Pearson, Jenkins, Johnathan Johnson, Josh Smith, Cody Blanc, Drae Bowles, Adrian Gamble, Vic Wharton, ALL did their jobs and made plays? Could you imagine what that group could do this year?

All they have to do is what Coach Jones is preaching. Control the controllables. Run the routes, catch the ball. I think they're going to be a great group.

I hope Bajakian can switch him to a hybrid TE/Wideout, ala Jimmy Graham for the Saints, Gonzalez formerly for the Falcons, Gronkowski ,etc. Not because he's big enough to block sometimes, but because it would allow the staff to have him on the field more, and able to create mismatches with LB's and safety's, rather than good cover corners.

Many NFL teams still struggle to cover these types of hybrid TE's. The Titans being one of them. Imagine having Croom lined up with North, Pearson and Malone..rather than rotating with them.

UNC used Ebron to great effect, in this role, last year. And he ended up getting drafted in the top 10. I think Croom (6'5") is slightly bigger than Ebron (8'4"), and just as athletic, so he could have the same kind of impact, IMO.
