The question now becomes whom Hart will turn to at season's end? Shaka Smart isn't coming here, and I'm not so sure Howland is a safe bet, either. As long as Cheek is resting his rear end in the office, Bruce Pearl is not a realistic option at this point.

I dont thinks Cheeks cares about UT athletes at all. He accepts our mediocre state. We are becoming the laughing stock of the SEC.

Sad enough our bubble got popped over a questionable decision to call a time out. Talk out a laughing stock for ESPN news. CCM may best be remembered for this more than any thing else.

We were gifted with them fouling Stokes though.

Should have won anyways if he makes the free throw.

well, I've been begging for him to call timeout when we have a possession to win it. I guess I didn't specify sooner than 2 seconds left in the game.

I have no clue what will happen when the change is made. Hart's statements made it seem like we'd go with another cheap hire. I don't disagree with going conservative, but we really should go after some bigger names. I can understand that football is first priority, but even with our recent crappy seasons, we've perennially been towards the top in the SEC over the past several seasons. I'm not asking for Hart to put the program on par with the football program, but just aim the sights a little higher; someone worth offering more than ~$1.3M.

Eh, football and baseball look like they are on the way up.

If we get Pearl back, all will be well in Knoxville for a while.

Richardson dribbled the ball for six seconds passed to Barton then we call timeout. Why not earlier or not at all? The CCM book of basketball strategy is a tougher breed that I don't quite understand.

As a coach, you hope your players get some penetration with at least 5 seconds left and that didn't happen. He didn't think Barton would get that good of a look. While I can understand not calling it at that point, we still had the chance to win. The fact that Barton made it is what makes it bad. If Barton air balls, then he gets criticized too. Big players have to make plays, and Stokes couldn't finish. We could have easily had 3 more wins if our players would have executed late and overcome the bad coaching. Bad coaching + weak players = disappointing year.

Really? I seriously doubt he doesn't care. Pretty sure he's aware of how much money football and basketball can bring in.

We're definitely on the rise in football and baseball, just need the right basketball coach.

Cuonzo is gone. Next year we get another mid major flop for an additional 3 years, lose what recruits we have. Mediocrity lives on. Jimmy Cheek sitting with a shish eating grin with a big bugger on his upper lip.

We had the right basketball coach then we fired him over a BBQ.

The only "name" coach that may possibly come here is Pearl. And, we don't have any recruits to run off anyway. Looks like a 3 year death watch coming unless Calipari agrees to come here along with his recruits like he did to Memphis.

Clearly a major nuclear failure of administration the way they handled this. Coaches commit much worse infractions than this--Missouri coach, for example, and are still coaching because their administration backs them up. Cheek and his minions have to go. It is almost like they were looking for a reason for Pearl to stub his toe. A BBQ???? Gimme a break.

If we make just one of the bricks that goes up from the free throw line, we win. So many reasons to find a way to lose.

That timeout will be a stigma that stays with him for as long as he is here. I know there were other ways we lost the game...not just one absurd timeout, but all of those "ways" can be attributed to his coaching. Just simply underachieving on such a consistent basis and losing winnable game after winnable game...that's on the coach.

No reason with the facilities resources we have for basketball including one of the nicest Arenas in the country that our basketball program can't be " on par" with our football program.
