Cuonzo is Done

As a coach, you hope your players get some penetration with at least 5 seconds left and that didn't happen. He didn't think Barton would get that good of a look. While I can understand not calling it at that point, we still had the chance to win. The fact that Barton made it is what makes it bad. If Barton air balls, then he gets criticized too. Big players have to make plays, and Stokes couldn't finish. We could have easily had 3 more wins if our players would have executed late and overcome the bad coaching. Bad coaching + weak players = disappointing year.

18-9 right now if Maymon hits his FT against A&M in January and Stokes hits his today.

I think (hope) Hart has enough sense to know that hiring a great BB coach will be worth it & will, in NO way, hurt football. We can have great FB & BB here. Surely he knows this. Now is the time for him to prove his hiring of Jones was skill & not dumb luck. If he won't rehire Pearl, go after another big name that will win & fill TBA!

Eh, football and baseball look like they are on the way up.

If we get Pearl back, all will be well in Knoxville for a while.

Before we get to attached to this baseball team does anyone have an idea as to where Dave Serrano's dream job is at?

The time out was bad mostly because a streaky shooter, who didn't have a point in the game made a great shot. If that shot doesn't fall and CCM hadn't called a timeout people would have complained he didn't give the guys a play. Its always something. That play may always be remembered and its a tough break but not a fireable offense. There are plenty of those, starting with; is chucking the ball down the court with 1.6 seconds left the best play we could draw up in a timeout?

Pathetic. This team doesn't even deserve to be in the NIT. Won't watch another game with Zo at the helm.
BRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I really hope we don't accept an NIT bid this year. It will save us the humiliation of losing to the likes of a Wofford or Middle Tenn again.

No, I remember Wade Houston, Martin is better, we don't want another Houston. Bring Back Bruce. It's a no brainer.

The question now becomes whom Hart will turn to at season's end? Shaka Smart isn't coming here, and I'm not so sure Howland is a safe bet, either. As long as Cheek is resting his rear end in the office, Bruce Pearl is not a realistic option at this point.

I said it in another thread, Howland destroyed UCLA basketball. He won early because players went to UCLA because of the name. Later years, players just quit the team because of Howland. Former players hated Howland. I believe SI wrote an article about how disconnected Howland was from the team and former payers. Why would we want this?

Make no mistake that I would rather have Bruce back but Howland is probably the best college coach currently available. I read the SI article that you reference and 11 players did leave the team between 2008-2012 and it was said that he had turned a blind eye to a player named Reeves Nelson that was bullying some of his teammates. So he comes with some warts but so does Bruce. Howland also turned around the Pitt program in a remarkable hurry. They won 11 games his first year but then 28 and 29 his third and fourth years. He also successfully recruited Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Darren Collison, Jordan Farmar, Arron Afflalo and Jrue Holliday just to name a few. UCLA went 10-19 in Steve Lavin's last season in 2003 but Howland made three final fours. He has no apparent ties to the southeast and might not even be interested but if we can't have Bruce back I doubt we could do better.

I want Cuonzo fired like too, but is anybody else curious how the team would have done with Golden at point?

Bruce is a no-brainer. He immediately brings excitement and expectation back to a program that has none and this perception carries over to other sports. Althletes want to play for a school that is at the top or headed to the top. Success breeds success. Since we aren't seeing it on the playing surface at this point, it has to start with coaches and recruiting.

We can criticize the end of game coach (or lack of coaching), but the fact remains that we should never of been in a tight game with a team of this stature in the first case.

Really want Bruce to come back but if not, just hire someone that will show excitement and energy and most important of all win games. Pretty much anyone would be an improvement over Cuonzo.

If we rehired Bruce, I wouldn't trade our three main sport head coaches with anyone in the league. Butch, Bruce and Dave will have vol fans thinking it is the mid nineties again in a couple years!
