On a run in the tourney. Can't believe he would say this.

@wesrucker247: Cuonzo: I'm really happy for our true fans -- the ones who have been behind us the whole time.

Cuonzo made a poorly thought out remark, if he intends on remaining at UT. Very decisive-and I have been one who has stood behind him.

Wow. Coach needs to be above the fray on this. Fans are fans. Make a run in the tourney, step up next year and surprise people, and the fanbase might just heal. Don't pour fuel on fire.

What did he say that was wrong? It sure seems as though some were wanting hid team to fail so Pearl could return. That's BS to root against the vols.

Next year will be rough. An above .500 season by one game will be considered a surprise.

If you aren't with us, you're against us.

The only time I have seen a portion of a fan base root against their team as much as U.T.'s (at least the fans represented on this board)was when I.U. fired Bobby Knight. Of course, Bobby had 3 N.C. and was an Indiana legend.

Cuonzo is a tough guy. If you aren't with him and his team you are against him.

When the majority of the fan base cheer only for the players' sake and hate you as a coach, you don't say something like this publicly when your job isn't safe. Must have gotten an incentive for making a play in game because I can't think of any other reason he would say this.

Why? It's clear much of the fan base doesn't want him around (and maybe me included). If the fans ca publicize a petition to fire him, then you can't get real upset when he says something like this. He is human.

Tough talk from a coach who was 64-68 as far as making the field. Now he's taking a shot at the fanbase that supports their university as a whole better than any place in the country.

As a leader or coach, you have to be able to turn the other cheek to the fans cause like business, the customers are always right.

Supports? How by petitioning for him to be fired? Laughable.

What's wrong with him calling out the bandwagon, Bruce Pearl loving, haters? I love that he's saying he's not oblivious to the moronic demeanor of the fan base and I hope he's right. Go big orange!

Yeah but people know that. If he does better than expected with what looks to be a weak roster I think folks would ease off. People's complaints about Martin center around him stepping into an elite coaching role and growing as a coach. A good run in the tourney followed up by a better than expected season could sway people, imo because he would finally be at the level fans expect.

He's happy for the true fans that he got us to a play-in game? What? He's finally got swagger and it's because he got to the play-in game? Something wrong with that. It's really sad.

"If they don't like it, they can go to K-Mart" - Jerry Green talking about the fans right before he got axed the question.
