Cuonzo Martin....

Since we are no longer gonna be on tv as much, we will not have to hear about Tennessee basketball at all.

Look, everyone knows you have your entire head up Pearl's ass. Do yourself a favor and contact the mods and try to create a Bruce Pearl Shrine Forum where you can express your feelings of undying love. This forum is for UT basketball.

They make the TV schedule before the season starts, to a large extent based upon the strength of schedule and a team's performance the prior season.

It's a lagging indicator of where a program is.

The people that irrationally hate Bruce Pearl is every bit as annoying. I have heard that Bruce Pearl can't recruit, can't coach offense, can't coach defense, is too easy on his players.

I think Bruce Pearl is a great coach bc he proved it on the court. If all these message board posters actually knew how to run a good offense or defense, they would be coaches.

I support Coach Zo 100% and feel a little more confident in him after last night. I just hope he continues to prove he is a great coach on the court like Bruce Pearl did before him.

I am sure Cuonzo had alot to do with that...not.

Do us all a favor and go back to the football forum with the rest of the lunatics on the board. Im not saying we're going to win a NC, let alone make the tourney. However, not having to watch an anemic offense and hear about NCAA violations is a breath of fresh air. No one knows how the season will end up, however many in the bball forum are excited to find out. So feel free to take your opinion about Zo and call bruce's show and tell him about it.

And for the record, I really liked Pearl. However, he's not the coach anymore and he has no one to blame for that but himself.

There are more of us out there than you think. The extreme ends of the spectrum are just more vocal.

I don't care who liked Pearl or who thought he was a good coach. I didn't like him, but I don't try to pretend he's a bad coach. I just hope those that only like Pearl will give Martin a chance.

We will not make the tournament due to having arguably one of the hardest schedules in the country and will probably be 2-3 in 2 weeks. Please do not judge a team based on 1 game against a meaningless team. Tennessee's lack of depth and good interior players will be exploited beginning in the Maui tournament.

Tennessee shot lots out and had many open shots we won't get against better teams.

I like Cuonzo and expect to make the tournament next year. We have a solid base to build around.

I will agree that saying this team would be a contender for the SEC or win 25 games based on one performance would be a stretch. At the same time one game is all the criteria that we have to judge on at this point, and based on this first game If you couldn't see alot of positives that lead you to believe the vols have a chance to be better than many have thought including myself, than we watched a different ball game.

Regardless of the opponent:
UT had great pg play, and good production from mediocre post players (because ccm knows how to utilize them other than sitting with their back to the basket)

They executed well on the offensive end and looked more comfortable than the team did at any point last year.

And they are buying in defensively to Martin's style.

This is a rebuilding year and we all know it. There will be some tough stretches and hard times this season, but give credit where it's due. This team played well tonight, and I'm not convinced by any means they will be great but I feel much better about our chances to be competitive and make the tournament.

I had to hear certain posters badmouth Bruce for years on this board and nobody said a damn word. I am not going anywhere.

The offense was flat after Lofton left. The team didn't really have a true PG. Plus with all of the conduct things going on. I liked Pearl for the first three seasons but things went downhill after that.

Rich, seems like you are more of Bruce Pearl fan than a U.T. basketball fan. Why don't you just ignore U.T. basketball and go cheer on Bruce when he enters a sales meeting, and hand him a towel and a Gatorade on the way out to his car. He is no longer the coach and Coach Martin had nothing to do with it, so why the hostility. Martin has won as a player, assistant coach, and head coach and by all accounts is a great guy, any yet you seem to be ready to run him out of town before he has even had a chance. Don't get me wrong, Martin is no Bruce Pearl, and we can all be thankful for that.

Well if I was a Memphis fan (and judging by your screen name I assume you are) I would be glad Bruce is gone too. Remember Vol fans, when fans of the your rivals like your coach that is usually a bad sign.

Great deflection to avoid answering the real question posed by his post.

Since you are running around my question I will explain it. You said I was no better than the people predicting great success. I then mentioned that earlier you had posted the word TEAM in all caps and then downgraded the previous coaching staff compared to the new one after only this game. I then wondered if that means you are just as "ill-informed" as I am but just on the opposite side of the spectrum. You then proceeded to ignore my question and continued to bash Bruce Pearl. Does that help?

I'm ill-informed because I capitalized the word team? I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure a group of players competing in a sport is defined as a team. My google isn't working, so don't quote me on that.

And saying CCM will likely employ a more disciplined and sound offense is pearl-bashing? Sensitive, are we? For what it's worth, Pearl had my respect before the incident. He had some fantastic qualities.

Every argument you partake in involves you skirting the real questions by labeling all who disagree with you as "pearl bashers". You're irrational and you bring absolutely nothing of value to this forum.

Good day, sir. :salute:

Why in the hell do the VOLS always end up with the hardest schedules in the nation? I know the AD is mainly responsible, but man, it gets old.

Rich, do you actually think a Memphis grad would have the ability to string together two complete sentences. Further, do you believe that a Memphis fan would come on to a Tennessee message board and voice his support for Coach Martin. Your assumption that I am a Memphis fan shows your powers of perception. I will provide you with my Bio and Coach Martin's, I am Clemson grad (hence the Tiger reference). My wife is from Knoxville and graduated from U.T. I lived in Knoxville for 4 years after I graduated from Clemson. My father is a Purdue grad, and I watched Coach Martin lead Purdue after Glenn Robinson turned pro after his junior year. Martin improved from a horrible shooter his freshman year, to one of the best 3 point shooters in Purdue history by his senior year. He went on to play a little in the NBA and overseas until non-Hodgkin Lymphoma ended his playing career. After he beat cancer he returned to Purdue, and played a huge role in leading Purdue back to where they are right now. He then left to lead Missouri State to some of it's best success in school history.

If that's not enough for you to give the man a little respect, then you truly are as dumb as your posts indicate.

IDK basketball is totally different from football Cuonzo know what he is doing I think. YOu dont get invited to coach in the USA college players in abroad in China if you dont. He has a solid basketball resume he played some pro ball with that being said DUKE struggles against athletic teams (ex. VA Tech, Michigan, Arizona) they struggle against them.

I am just glad to know that we have a coach that will develop kids into good, fundamentally sound basketball players (something Pearl couldn't do). What he has done with Trae already is nothing short of amazing, IMO. He just needs to be able to recruit and evaluate players. Only time will tell in that regard.
