Current Recruiting Rankings Analysis

I don't know if a study has been done yet, but I think there should be one where they look at the recruiting classes of the 4 years prior to a team winning the National Championship, so we can see how much recruiting matters. It might help those snobs (Vandy fans) in the center of the state understand, as well.

I've done it, at least back to 2005.

Here are the general findings: To get into the championship game, a team must average recruiting in the top 20 over the preceding four year period. If you remove Oregon and Ohio State (both losers of the championship game) the bar raises to about 15.

The team with the highest four year ranking has won all but one of those games (the exception was Texas over USC).

The winners of the national championship game since 2005 had the following 4 year recruiting averages:

13.5 <-only exception to the rule
7.25
8.75
5.25
5.75
12.25

I agree. It appears to gave been a great move for them. I also wonder, however, if things change a bit if Charlie Strong gets things turned around at UT, Jr. Recent recruiting years at Texas have been down

You should refer to them as UTex, so maybe they will quit trying to take our abbreviated name.

Won't be surprised if UK get a little decent in the future, as long as Stoops is HC they'll always have a great recruiting class. Weren't they ranked #1 at one time last year?

I believe so, and they finished with a top 20/25 recruiting class which is stellar for UK football. UK is going to surprise some people in a few years if they keep recruiting like they have under stoops. I'm not saying that they'll win the east or even come close, but I could see a 7-8 win season possible in their future. Coach Brooks was able to win a few bowl games at UK with less talent. I read somewhere that UK got about 5x more top 250 players last year than they got the previous half decade...since they only had like 1 in those 5 years. 😂 @ Kentucky football.

In case anyone is wondering why I know anything about UK football, my girlfriend and one of my good friends are both loyal UK fans (flame away), so I wish the mildcats the best except when they play Tennessee. Also, I've never really considered them a "hated" rival like fla or bubba...just a border rival that we've absolutely owned in football so I don't have any hate for them, since they've never been a threat except for when doolittle was here. All that applies to football only...when it comes to basketball, UK is the team I most want to beat any given year.

Before I say this, I hate bama but as long as that little turd face little nicky boy is there, it is going to be hard to compete against them, they have already got the 15 recruiting class ranked number 1 and are well on there way for another one in 16, just don't seem right, if we have one class rated 15 to 20 we fall way behind in the talent level, the SOB has got to be cheating, who would want to play for a little turd face like little nicky, or boosters throwing CASH around, I hate bummer and that turd face little nicky. Bummers suks:rtfm:

Nicky gets some of the best players money can buy.

He will not be @ Kentucky in the future if he continues to recruit like this, someone will offer him the big bucks.

Our 1998 national championship team also conforms quite closely to that statistical pattern. We signed the 2nd, 12th, 3rd and 5th best classes in succession from 1994-1997, based on Rivals' final ranking, which would give us an annual ranking for that period of 5.5. Documentation for that assertion can be found in the following article: Tennessee Football Recruiting: The 10 Greatest Recruiting Classes Since 1980 | Bleacher Report.
