Cutcliffe Play Call

I am not an Ainge or a Crompton guy. I just think Crompton should be actively prepared.
agreed. Having a back-up QB that isn't prepared to come in and play in any given situation, on any down at any time is the act of a poorly prepared football team. Crompton should be preped week to week as if he IS gonna be the guy, whether he is or not. I like to think this young man has the raw talent or he would'nt have a uniform, and that he's preped week by week to be the starter irregardless if it happens or not. I look at coach Cut and I find it hard to believe that with the way he's developed our rifleman Ainge, that he would ignore or overlook Cromptons' development.

that he would ignore or overlook Cromptons' development.

There is no way he would, considering the violent nature of the Sec. The backup is always one play away from playing, and thats as true in the Sec as in any conference.

Fulmer stated in an interview this week, that the backup gets more reps in practice (50%) than any other team.

Erik Ainge said Monday the play that led to his sprained ankle was a designed quarterback run. Facing second-and-goal from South Carolina's 5-yard line, Ainge lost 4 yards and his leg twisted awkwardly on a tackle by Rodney Paulk.

"It could have been a lot worse," Ainge said. "I just thank God for that. I've obviously got someone watching me while I'm playing."

An offside penalty against the Gamecocks waved the play off anyway.

"We knew what they were doing," Ainge said. "It was a good idea. They just beat us in a couple of spots, and I shouldn't have tried to fight (the tackle). It wouldn't have been as bad if I just wouldn't have tried to fight it."

Soooooooo ... you sure about that now?

Someone's not being completely honest.

I was told (by someone that would know, trust me), that they did not tell Ainge to run the ball.

That's all I know.

Someone said earlier that maybe Ainge was given two choices, and chose the run. Maybe that's what happened and Ainge is taking that to mean it was "called" and the person that told me, simply meant that they didn't signal in QB draw only.

It's curious for sure because said source never lies to me.

*sigh*

I like you O2, but come on. Fulmer and Ainge have both stated it was a called draw. Period, end of story.

It's curios then, because someone we know that would know told us it was CPF's called play.

Just looking at it again, Ainge never looked down field, and he never said it was a bust. CPF and Cutty never said it was a bust.

I'll go back and check and see what was said, but I'm pretty sure that is what I told.

You can sigh all you want. I could sit here and make something up off the top of my head, or I could do what I did and simply relay what was told to me.

I don't have the "right" answer because I wasn't given the right answer.

Like I said, all I know is the man told me they didn't tell Ainge to run the draw early Sunday morning. Now Ainge says he did. That's all I got. But rest assured I am going to put in another call and try to get some clarification on what I was told before.

The News Sentinel has reported twice today that the draw was a called play. Ainge confirmed it was called as well.

I just got confirmation that CPF called the draw play, not Cutcliffe.

I don't really care if it was a called play or not, whatever the case may be, I think we can all agree that it was the wrong thing to do. Ainge needs to protect himself out there.

If it was called, Ainge should have taken a timeout and asked the coaches what they were thinking.
