Cutcliffe's Future (Merged)

LSU? I don't get it.

Don't discount the Barnhardt ties to UK. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Cutcliff there in 2 years, as Morris might be prolonging his career by a year by beating up on the Central Michigans and North Texases of the world.

No one that I know in UK or UT is especially impressed with Mitch the wonderkid.

You know, I'm not sure he is wonderkind, but I do think he gets a little bit of a bad rap by UK fans (who also, I might add, inexplicably love Joker Phillips and Guy Morris.)

The basketball program, while down from the Pitino era, is a situation he inherited, and I doubt that the most talented AD in the world would come in and fire the first black coach in KY history who has won a championship of some type (conference tourney, regular season, or NCAA) every year he has been at UK except one (last.)

The football program is as good as it has been since the 1950s if you discount the two periods that got them thrown under the NCAA probation bus.

Golf, baseball, women's basketball, and a bunch of other sports that nobody really pays attention to are at the absolute peak of their Kentucky histories.

I'm not saying I want the guy at UT (although I'm not sure our AD is exactly setting the world on fire,) but it looks to me like basketball is worse under Mitch, but not enough to make a coaching change; football is the same; and everything else is much, much better. I'm not really sure what the Cat fans expect from an AD.

I got brain blocked, too. I meant Brooks, typed Morris. At least it is corrected now.

I do not believe that anyone was ever under the impression that Majors and Fulmer were good friends. If Hamilton fired Fulmer to keep Cut, I believe Cut and Chavis would walk away from the university.
I think they were good friends, maybe not as good as Fulmer and Cut, but I think the hatchet would have been buried by now if they had not been friends. Things cut much deeper when a friend is involved rather than just an aquaintance, and the wound takes longer to heal.

Yeah, Hamilton's doing a lousy job. I can't believe he hired that goofy Bruce Pearl. Also, I can't believe he's overseeing the transformation of Thompson-Boling Arena from a soulless aluminum barn into a quality basketball facility. We need a visionary AD like Bob Woodruff or Doug Dickey.

I would bet 1/20th of my life savings David Cutcliffe would not take the HC job at Alabama if it were to open up while he is OC at UT.

I don't think Cut would leave for Thug U(miami) and as bad as Bama is this year Shula isn't going anywhere for a couple more losing seasons. I believe Cut isn't going anywhere after this year. I believe he signed a 2 year contract anyway. Im sure He will assertain leaving for a HC after next year when we have another great season if the school is right. He has made it very clear his family is at home in knoxville and he is very happy where he is at now and it would have to be one hell of a great opportunity for him to leave.

David Cutcliffe has the same chance of being a candidate at the "U" that I do of being named Secretary General of the United Nations. When you've won 5 National Titles in 23 years, you don't have to hire guys who wash out at mid-level SEC jobs.

I agree . . . I doubt a guy like Cutcliffe would even be on Miami's radar.

The NFL alums would come to Coral Gables and choke the very life out of Paul Dee and Donna Shalala if they brought in David Cutcliffe.

Cut would never work at Miami with his earring bias and hatred for hats worn backward. :birgits_giggle:

I think the NFL alums are kind of a double edged sword down there.

I think everyone on the board knows I like a number of those guys, but you've got a point. They really make life difficult for the head coach if things aren't going well. None of them are much on witholding comment about the state of the program.

Coach Cut will stay where he is at........... I think he likes being home again.

You might be able to make some some real progress at the United Nations. I would vote for you......you can't screw things up any worse, thats for sure.

:good!:

I guess then... it's a good thing you don't have a vote in the UN.

There was a column about this in Sunday's Chattanooga paper. (Here.)

My favorite quotes:

"Enjoy watching a protected Erik Ainge pick apart defenses like he'’s toying around with a PlayStation football game on the easiest setting."

"Remember when Tennessee got inside the red zone last year? Me neither."

"The Vols, who made the forward pass look like a foreign concept last year, dropped 51 points on the nation's No. 1 scoring defense."

Okay guys, probably a touchy subject but we're half way through the season and the time will be upon us before we know it . Will Cutcliffe be here next season?
Alot of people on ESPN are talking about what a hot commodity he will be which we have to know is very true, People will be coming for him left and right at the end of the season.
My gut feeling (or maybe just wishful thinking) is he will stay so Fulmer can eventually turn it over to him in a year or two. I hope I'm right, the man has proven his worth, if not before then certainly after what he's done this season.
And I think he is a true Volunteer and I would hate to see him somewhere else. It would be like seeing Bear Bryant coaching in the Pac-10 or something.
