Déjà vu all over again, UT coaching search/Hire

I am hearing they have already screwed up the Gruden deal. For some insane reason, Golden's name keeps popping up. If Hart hires him he should spend the rest of his life in a hungarian prison..

I agree with being patient and letting a coach develop talent over 4-5 years, but whomever the coach is will have to bring signature wins over top teams. We need to win the games were not "supposed" to win and stop losing to teams we are "supposed" to beat.

I want the big hire, too. However, we're probably not going to hear anything definitive until the second week of December.

Also, not to be overly pessimistic, but this process is beginning to smell a bit like the Dooley hire: a lot of talk about big names, and a lot of those big names re-upping their contracts at their respective jobs or unequivocally stating that they are not interested in coming to TN. So, you wind up with 'who you can get' rather than 'who you wanted.'

As we all have noted, for the incoming coach to meet the expectation of success, they're going to have to be a highly competitive recruiter so that they can snag talent from the surrounding universities. They'll also have to illustrate equal genius at scheming and game plan adjustment, all while consistently developing player ability (e.g. making a 3 or 4 star a "5 star" by their senior year).

Of the names we're seeing float through the rumor mill, who can we get that will be able to do all that? . . . I guess I'm preparing myself for a little metered disappointment.

This is exactly what I have tried to explain on here about the Dooley hire! Sure we think TN is a fine job, a destination job, but, for big name hires it is a tough place to come in and turn around. If you don't get to coach your senior recruits, or even red shirt seniors before you are fired for non-performance, it ain't a risk many will take. Most of them have good jobs and enough money already, and their fans love them! That's why we got Dooley....he would take the job to move up.
Hamilton hired him after numerous proven coaches politely said NO THANKS!

I hate to disagree but we had several coaches last two hires that were better qualified but we past on them for whatever reason. Hamilton told Patterson & Kelly we were going with Kiffin, then Second time around Sumlin was wanting to come here but we didnt pull the trigger. I think $$$ people are afraid to give up the power or want a yes sir coach something wrong somewhere. As far as patience goes, this fanbase I think is patient when you see life on the field. As bad as we were in the 70's, Majors pulled an upset over Notre Dame.

Its being reported Gruden is asking 5.5 million a year, which is around what i thought it would take. I been saying 5 million for 7 years would do it. He asking a lot of money but what is the alternative Al Goden or Butch Jones? I knew the admin wouldn't pull the trigger for an elite coach. "Who the hell is Jerry Green" hire here we come. smh

I just hope whomever the next hire is stays long enough that we don't have to pay some dumb buy out. That's the biggest problem. Awful coaches running the program into the ground and bankrupting us on the way out.

Comprehending what you read is not your strong point is it? So I will give you the cliff notes. I said i wasnt bashing CCM, he wasn't the big name everyone was throwing around. The word alternative should have gave you a hint that i was wanting the Admin to pay Gruden. The alternative or other option is get opposite and get easy middle of the road Al Goden ot Butch Davis, Butch Jones all the same.

Well from what I'm hearing Butch Jones is on the list now. So we now had two incompitenant AD's, who can't hire a coach. I was hoping I was going to be wrong but it doesn't appear to be the case.
