D’Eriq King enters Transfer Portal. Is he a possible grab for the Vols?

He would be a nice bridge to the Bailey era if UT could get him. They could sell him on an elite o-line and a starting spot. LSU with Brady seems likely. I don’t see Riley and OU pushing out Rattler for king. If they do then Rattler would become the best transfer on the market. Redshirt freshman with immediate playing time with a year of learning from Riley.

Yes, I saw this early in the season, but I don't see how it helps at all. If anything wouldn't this hurt recruiting?

That discussion while valid doesn't have anything to do with the fact King did exactly what his HC asked him to do.

Who knows how it impacts recruiting...I mean Houston fired Major Applewhite after his 2nd season as HC and going 8-5. Just to hire Dana who then goes 1-3 to start and intentionally tanks his team.

Why on earth did he wait this long?

Should have done this weeks ago. Most schools already have started. Maybe the one he’s going to hasn’t started yet

None of the schools you mention recruited him outta HS though...

Baylor recruited him (Kendal Briles) which is likely why Arkansas is a front runner. Obviously from a "best shot at NFL" you'd think if OU, LSU, or Bama were interested he'd be looking there. When's the last time Bama went after a transfer QB though?

Probably wanted to confirm he graduated so he could be a grad transfer?

Let’s hope it’s Arkansas and not Florida then.
i still think it's OU.

i think UF's QB situation is similar to ours, with the caveat that they know who their starter is gonna be and aren't near as nervous as we are about it......

Maybe seeing LSU’s offense in the Natty convinced him or he learned that Brady was staying at LSU.

I’m not sure the “recruited him out of HS” really matters on a 1-yr rental agreement, to be honest. OU didn’t recruit Hurts our of HS, either. And though not a traditional grad transfer since he had two years of eligibility after redshirting and graduating early from tOSU, Joe Burrow didn’t get a sniff from LSU out of HS before transferring there.

And I conceded that Bama is not the most likely landing place, but they don’t have a wealth of experience there, now, and might perhaps like King over Mac Jones or the idea of starting a freshman. Again, not a likely scenario.

Arkansas may end up being the choice, but it seems like a lateral move, at best. Doesn’t seem wise for a QB betting on himself to put himself in a potentially worse situation that he’s leaving.

So is he transferring now and after this spring semester ?

Hell if I know man. Just saying could have been waiting to verify he passed the needed courses in Fall semester, it's still just January 14th may have had to wait on something.

Why do people use IMO or IMHO? It's always considered your opinion unless you state otherwise. Stop the madness!

I doubt that King ends up at Arkansas as they're worse off than Houston. With all of the QB's on our roster (don't we still have the transfer QB from Maryland?) I highly doubt that we are even considered...Oklahoma or LSU might be a better landing spot.

If he had to take a class during the break or has to stay this spring I agree

If not the timing is odd

We already have 5 QBs on the roster and we only have two spots left for the 2020 class and they are reserved for Beckwith and Hardy. So unless one of them tells the coaching staff they are for sure not coming we will not be taking anymore transfers.
Beckwith and Hardy are not coming here IMAO. Stop dreaming.

You're looking at it from the wrong mindset though. You seem to think that King wants to go somewhere and win or compete for a national title. If that was the case he wouldn't have picked Houston or he would have left sooner. What he most likely wants for his last year in college is to be the starting QB with an offense that will give him the chance to rack up stats. Arkansas could be a 4 or 5 win team, but if Briles is the OC King will have outstanding numbers behind a Sam Pittman built OL.

King could go anywhere you mentioned, I just think Arkansas having Briles AND still being close to Texas (family) helps them.

Accounted for 50 tds in 2018. Take all day long. Keep Hill and HB and let the other 3 transfer. It solves all our problems and allows HB to adjust and develop for one year. This would be perfect. I bet Georgia wished King had announced intentions a few days earlier.

I'd have to think OU or LSU would be highest on his list given their recent history. Even with the Briles connection, Arkansas seems like the worst fit unless he just wants as little competition for the starting spot as possible.

Since we're playing fantasy football here, gimme King for next year with Maurer as the backup. Bailey RS. Shrout and Hill move on. I also expect another player or three to hit the portal sooner rather than later.

Why in the world would you want the other 3 to transfer? We need at least 4 scholarship QBs on the roster at all times.

We've got a couple of prospects who might fancy themselves capable of emergency service at QB should the need arise for a 4th body.
