Anyone think that the Tater Diggers still want King Dabo to fill in when Satan leaves??? My guess is definately not now, especially with his refusal to use portal free agents. That has cost his smug ass this year and he knows it.

I’ve been thinking same thing for a while too . As long as he was consistently successful at Oregon I thought he might be the guy. He’s trending that way right now it seems.

How about this unlikely scenario: Bama plays Oregon in the playoff final. Oregon wins by 10+ the chatter starts, Saban calls it a career after signing day, a coaching search starts w/ special consultant Saban. The usual suspects are called to which they turn it down. After a long search in walks Cristobal hired as the HC.

Now, this won’t happen without a fight but the question is how much is Oregon willing to pay to keep their guy, and will the Bama faithful be happy in the long run should it start slow?

The question I’ve long wondered…. What school could Bama NOT beat out in a bidding war for a coach that they really wanted.

I guess it would depend on the donation from Nikes head man. Other than that less than 5 would be my guess.

USC is a sleeping giant. If it wasn't for the NCAA who knows if they would still be on their run. Bama is doing it now.

Given the current impotence of the NCAA I could see USC going on a long run again if they get it up and rolling.

Y'all don't understand how things work in Alabama. They will do whatever it takes to win. If that comes down to money alone, they will not be outbid.

Who could’ve ever guessed that Pete Carrol leaving for the Seahawks would have a butterfly effect that impacted our program the way that it did?

There is nothing quite like a coaching carousel.

Would love to run a bunch of alternate reality simulations with our football program over the last 10-12 years and see how things would have turned out.

- If Carroll never left USC, how long does Lane stay here? How well does he perform?
- If Lincoln made that FG against Alabama, does that make Lane at least think long and hard about leaving UT? Sounds silly, but if that FG is good all of a sudden that becomes an 8-4 regular season with a road win in a rivalry game against the #1 team in the country. Not bad at all, especially for his first season, and we enter 2010 with a huge amount of momentum.
- What if we didn't have 14 guys on the field against LSU? It was one game, but would a huge victory like that early in Dooley's tenure have changed his trajectory?
- What if Dobbs's redshirt wasn't burned in 2013, allowing him to stay for the 2017 season? There's no way Butch goes 0-8 in conference play with Dobbs at QB and he probably isn't fired after that season, right?
- What if Currie was allowed to hire Mike Leach? I personally don't think Leach would have worked out here, but it would have been incredibly entertaining.

Any others anybody else can think of?

What if Cut was allowed to bring Scottie Montgomery instead of Hamilton trying to force him to keep Kippie Brown on? That was signed, sealed and delivered according to a guy I know on Duke’s staff. He and the other staff had already called their wives and told them to start packing. Crazy to think about . We would be light years ahead of where we are currently if Cut had even been here for 5 seasons IMO.

Ooh, forgot about that one.

Cut would have needed help on the defensive side of the ball and recruiting but he undoubtedly would have developed a QB.

Imagine if Wyatt wouldn't have crapped the bed and recruited Spurrier?

We can go way back if ya want?

I mean, ya could, but I was thinking about just the post-Fulmer era.

While that is an incredible alternate reality in which Spurrier becomes a Tennessee legend instead of a Florida legend, if he ended up coaching at UT instead of Florida I wonder if the history of our program is any different. Both Fulmer and Spurrier had awesome records and each won a national title. We probably would have had won more SEC titles and a much better record against Florida though.

If Cut had come in at the end of Meyer at UF and Richt at UGA I think we would’ve been in good shape. I’d take Cut over McIlwain and Richt at that point . Coach Cut owned UGA. The D would’ve needed some help, but I’m certain that Cut could’ve recruited on par with Dooley and then built on that success. Sure as hell would’ve turned Bray into a Day 1 guy.

We have a long history of bad decisions. We're the Taylor Swift of college football.
Every school has a long history of bad decisions. The question is are your good decisions good enough to make people forget the bad ones.

Alabama swung and missed a bunch of times, then hired Saban. If you go 1-5 with 4 Ks but your one hit is a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the 9th, nobody remembers how bad you looked in the previous at-bats.
