Dale Jones Story???

First off let me say this, I didn't think this was an English comp course LOL!!! I thought this was a UT football forum!! If it is not typed to your liking then by all means move on, at my age I could care less if it is to your liking or not!! And further more the area where they were talking is not just some place they let just anybody stroll around.. My son who is a sophomore at DB is disabled, so the faculty knew who this man was was or he would have not been in that location PERIOD!!! And further more to the Troll comment, I have what they call a JOB and raise a family, and have been attending UT games before you even knew what UT football was!! So please give me a freaking break, I don't live on the pc or my phone to sit around all day between classes and put people down geesh!! Get a freaking life!!! My wife noticed the "ring" when he was pulling out folders from his briefcase to show someone.. Like I said I don't know if it was him or not, but man I sure wished I had not said anything!!! And mods feel free to delete this thread, I don't want to bother the English comp course students in
a UT FOOTBALL forum!!!!

We don't really trust anyone with a job

I think the comments about paragraphs are due to the fact that it's just hard to read something without a decent amount of white space in there. It gets called a "wall of text." Lots of VN members sneak looks on their mobile phones while we're, errr they're, supposed to be doing something else * cough cough * and a wall of text is almost unreadable on a phone.

So maybe it's not necessarily people being grammar Nazi's, although we have those too, it's more of attempted helpful feedback.

Anyway, thanks for the post, interesting! and nice edit on the OP. :hi:

Dale jones was one helluva player.. Al Wilson before there was an al Wilson. He played with his helmet in qb's faces. He'd get tossed now for playing too rough, but he, Leonard little, al Wilson, and Reggie white were the most disruptive defensive players I have seen. A true badass.

I'll second that!!! Would be nice if story is true....... I really don't think DJ would be going around talking about it though........ OP is FOS IMO.........

Unable to reach DB asst. coach. Appy ring however from 1AA national championship. However at this point would take Dale Jones, George Quarles or about anyone else who has ever called a football play or conducted a practice.

I know many here tout Al Wilson who deserves it all but if I were were to assemble a All-Star Vol Linebackers unit I'd have...

Keith Delong, Al Wilson and Dale Jones

I've done some checking with sources close to DB that Dale Jones was not at DB this week.

Can you find out who that guy was at DB?? I would love to know, because of the questions he was asking the person he was talking to right before my wife left the school..Because he was from Appy St. And thanks for checking it out, it has made me really wonder the more she and I talk about it..

I was told nobody from Appy was there, only UT this week so I'm not sure who this mysterious person was.

I remember Delong having like 22 tackles in one game or some such ridiculosity. He put people on the ground.

Agree with both lists, but I'd have to add the 190lb MLB
Raynoch Thompson on there too...dude didn't weigh squat,
but would bring the wood every time ... heart,heart,heart...

Okay I commented a little about this in the "Ron Zook" thread. But I wanted to tell the whole story because I have thought a whole lot about it since Wednesday evening. I came home from work Wednesday and the wife and I were fixing dinner, and we are just talking and out of the blue she says "wow" you are not going to believe what happened to me today while I was there picking our son up from school early because he was sick.

So anyway, she said when I walked in and was talking with the secretary telling her I was there to get my son, there was a gentleman talking to another lady about football and some team letting time expire to end the game.. As the other lady walked away my wife ask the man if he was talking about the UT Vols game against Mizzu to which he replied no, it was about another high school that was around the Knoxville area.. But anyway they were talking about that game a little and she was saying how she wanted Dooley gone and to be replaced with Jon Gruden, and said to him I have even put it on my Facebook page that I want Gruden to be the head coach.. The man responds back with you know "Gruden" used to be the GA there in the 80's, to which my wife responded back with yes and his wife was also a cheerleader there at the time. But here is the part that got my attention, he had sunglasses on she said he kinda pulled them down on his nose a little and kinda grinned and told my wife that Gruden had already contacted him about joining his coaching staff at UT for next year!!! My wife told me she thought to herself in a Dr. Evil voice, RIGHTTTT LOL, and they talked just about a minute more and my son came down to the office and her and my son left school.

Anyway, standing in my kitchen and listening to my wife's story I was like what was this guys name?? And she said I didn't ask because I thought he was full of bull and he was just flirting with me (by the way I wouldn't blame him if he was flirting) she is still a hotty even after 24 years of marriage!! Anyway, I ask her what did he look like? And she says oh about 6' to 6'1 maybe 240 pounds late 40's to early 50's and was wearing a hat and a APPY State shirt and had a "massive ring" on his left hand. And I was like again you didn't ask him his name?? And she said no, I just thought he was full of himself and flirting besides he was just wearing an Appy state shirt and thought why would Jon Gruden contact some guy from Appy state to join his coaching staff?? And I said; oh I don't know maybe it was just DALE "freaking" Jones who is the APPY State DC and was one of the greatest linebackers in UT history?!? HELLO! she had no clue about Dale Jones LOL.. So I pulled up his pic and said could this be the man? and she said OMG it could have been but he was wearing Oakley sunglasses and she couldn't be 100% sure, but she said she thought it very well could have been him.. So far nobody at the school will say it was or was not him, so at this point I am still wondering if it could have been??

Sorry for such a long story, but I had to get this off my chest!! like I said in the "Ron Zook" thread I am no insider or booster ect, just somebody who played football all through school and bleeds Orange no matter win or lose since the early 70's.. And the High School my son attends is Dobyns Bennett High School, so I can't confirm if it was Dale and if so did he accept the job? Or why he would have told her that Gruden contacted him for a job on his staff?? But to say this blew me away Wednesday evening was an understatement to say the least, so take it for what it is worth, but I sure believed that it could have been Dale Jones.. :crossfingers:

Ok, not that this changes anything, but just got confirmation from asst. coach at DB that Dale Jones was there last week at DB. So this story has ton of validity

Keep up the info Vol fans. Dots are connecting that Gruden is for real in play. Keeping :crossfingers:

So now we have coaching staff/kids at school rumors coming out of Kingsport...... Nice try.

It makes sense that it happened the way the OP said, BUT I think Dale was saying what he said tongue in cheek. IF JG had contacted DJ about a job, I dont think DJ would have said a word.

Thanks Ronnie, and if it was him and this happens then I will never hear the end of it from her LOL..

How else could a wife make up a story like this?

OrebankVol, I apologize about the troll comment. Just highly skeptical of all of the sighting info going on. Some of it is just stupid. If everyone was trying to keep thinks under wraps then you would not see kids registering for school in a public place.

Have great respect for Kingsport and DB. Lived in Sullivan Gardens for 4 years and that is a great community. Also have the upmost respect for Dale Jones. That guy is and always will be a legend in our hearts and minds. I wish we had a couple of DJ's on this current defense.

Thanks man, and I can understand why the Skepticism about what I typed. I am just like every other person on here when it comes to info on the coaching search..

But you can only imagine hearing what she was saying and I was thinking WHAT?? It still is wild and I only told a few people before I posted this because it is as hard for me to believe it, as much as it is for anybody out there.. But if it was him, then all he told was one woman who loves the Vols and was fed up with the product our coaching staff was putting on the field.. He may have not thought that her husband would put the info out for all of VolNation to read LOL..
