I don't follow NBA much, but a little research this morning shows that Brian Scalabrine of the Celtics and others (google search white mamba) have had this name bestowed on them. Now, it looks like Dalton's Teammates are pushing this nickname on DK. Check out this interview after the Vandy game. I LOVE this- DK's teammates are trying to make him crack up during an interview and they even start asking the questions. Amazed that DK kept a straight face through this. I never saw this side of Jonas Aidoo, but it's obvious this team is having fun and they have GREAT CHEMISTRY.

Yea, that's what I miss most about playing/coaching team sports, the support and camaraderie of your teammates/players.

Barnes better be busy looking for his replacement. UT would be in big trouble without DK. C is for connect, sorry about that "error"

Can you source where you heard Knecht has Scalabrine's blessing? I feel like "white mamba" is a little sacred among hoop heads and if we try to co-opt without him instigating it, it'll be akin to Kentucky's checkerboard endzone. It wouldn't really be ours.

I think Scalabrine was called that ironically...

It's kind of in the middle. People say it partly because it's funny, but he does have some Kobe in him in the sense that he's a MFer and also has a great skill set (he just wasn't athletic).

Scalabrine was on the Celtics with Garnett where it was as toxic as any team ever with the alpha ****, and he fit right in.

Only thing I know is that DK was asked by his teammates why they call him that. I really think it was just an attempt to crack DK up in a interview. A spontaneous question where a teammate is parodying a news guy. Probably nobody even thought of going to Boston and asking permission.

Scalabrine is cool enough to pass it on to somebody like Knecht, so it felt like it could be true. I just misunderstood you.

That could be said about every other team..

I doubt that. DK will be the SEC MVP, possible Naismith winner. I could search other top 20 teams and find players who could step up and fill the scoring gap. I don't see it at UT. But thanks for the counterpoint..

I am still having a problem spelling his last name after 3 months! He looked like a deer in the headlights in that last interview and is being discussed at all levels in all YouTuber sports podcasts across the country, national level. I hope he can handle the newfound fame and the extra pressure it applies each night. Some thrive on it and some don't. So far it looks like "bring it on, they can't stop me".

If Dalton Knecht continues to average 28 ppg in the SEC and we keep winning, he may have a chance at POY. Has anybody averaged 28 ppg in the SEC since Pistol Pete?
He didn't average that against the Vols! Mears would slow the game down like slow motion, no shot clock or 3 point line back then. My memory says his scoring was held to 20"s each game, 1/2 his normal output.

Well we shall see. If Dalton ends up winning the scoring title, of course there is the Big10 bias.......Would you Trade players?? I wouldn't .
Edley is too far ahead and has the hype train going. I am not saying it's right its just how life works. Edey is currently averaging 23 and 11 thats not likely to change much he is 7'4" and a not sloppy 300lbs and the only thing that can possibly stop him from getting his is his knees.. Knetch is Currently at 19.5. If he wants to get to 28 avg he would need to score 41 points a game rest of season. to get to 25 hed need to average 34. Neither of those is gonna happen lets say he averages 28 for the rest of the season which his unlikely but within the realm of possibility. That would leave him at about the same point output as Edey. However, Edey is pulling down 11 boards and a couple blocks per game. See the problem?

I see but Dalton is easily the most exciting player in CBB, IMO. As I said, I wouldn't Trade him for Goliath.
