Neither would I but politics and momentum.
If there numbers were even close your looking at having to make a final four to have any shot at it I'd guess..I wouldn't mind beating Purdue ass for a championship myself but unfortunately like u said the Hype train is what it is and bias is very real...Plus that kid from Houston is pretty damn good and could get big 12 player of the year and some national player consideration but there isn't anyone I'd take over DK.If he hadn't gotten hurt and had the lull in play this argument would hold water alot better jmo those few games probably killed his chance but u never know...

their numbers won't be close......Knecht does points..... unless he starts pulling down 10 boards and 3 blocks a game its over already. 23/11/2 is gonna beat 28/5/1 all day and as points out for Knecht to even get to 23 points he would have to average 28 a game rest of the season. Math is undefeated.

We play 31 regular season games.
Dalton currently has 371 points with 12 games left. 23 points a game would be 713 points meaning he would need to average 28.5 to get to 23. Let's get crazy say he averages 30 that would put him at 23.6 if you round up and he'd also have to become a blocking and rebounding monster to make up the difference in other stats.

Schedule-wise we have to see Kentucky twice Vandy again, Bama again USCe twice, and 2 doses of A&M plus a dose of LSU. It's gonna be rough to expect him to average 28+ vs that because people are gonna start keying on him. SEC Player of the Year All-America sure he is on track for all of that but Edey is the next in a long line of big ole boys that get drafted 1 overall and his knees blow up the next day. Everyone remembers Shack not many people remember his LSU teammate Stanley Roberts. he was drafted first round the year before Shaq to the Orlando Magic they thought they'd had some twin towers from LSU. That is when people started learning them big boys blow tires.

Edey came back this season because he wasn’t rated as a high draft choice last year - nothing significant about him or his play has changed from last season. Who in the NBA would he compare to?

No one really his closest comb would be Yao Ming/Greg Oden. Because of his size a lot of pundits have him in the same 15-20 range as Knecht but he is a physical specimen and if he makes it out of this year with no injuries I guarantee you someone will freak out and draft him in the lottery. the thing that makes him so intriguing is the thing that scares people away from him. Everyone fears the tires blowing because with guys that big it almost always happens. there are only 9 players in the NBA right now over 270.. and most of them are sub-footers. Edey would on day 1 be the biggest player in the NBA the current biggest is Nurkic at 290 and Zion, and Jokic at 284. One thing you'll notice about people on that list is most of them are frequent flyers on the injury report. Also almost all of them were lottery picks. If Edey shot 3's he would be a shoe in number 1 pick. 11 boards and 2 blocks in college is a lot.

Here are a few comps from nbadraft room all of these guys had or have been plagued with knee/foot issues but were dominant players when healthy. It is always the knock on behemoths but some team will always over-draft them. If Purdue makes a push in the NCAA's he will go high in the lotto.
a bigger Ivica Zubac with some Boban Marjanovic
Yao Ming with a little less size and mobility
a plus-sized Eric Montross

I have 0 doubts that Knect will have longer/better NBA career. The chances Edey's feet and knees make it more than a few years is slim and a big man that can't stretch the floor has limited use. It will not stop some NBA team to go Al Davis in the draft and take him and it won't stop the voters in the press from anointing him player of the year because he is hands down the most dominant player in college right now. Knect scores that's it... the reason he came to UT was to develop his defense under Barnes I'd bet money on that because he knows his future in the NBA is a 3 and D guy. There are 30+ 6'6" guys in the NBA that can put up 20 points a game riding the bench because they can't do anything but score. For Knecht to compete for the Naismith he has to show something other than scoring because like I said to even get to a 25-point average which is nice but not amazing he would need to average 33+ points a game going forward. With our remaining schedule that is highly unlikely Is he the greatest scorer for UT since Lofton? sure.. but let us keep expectations in reality. His job is to lead us to the final four. He is gonna need the other 3 guards to pick up the pace or teams will key on him. For us to win how we want to win his scoring average will likely come down because hero ball isn't gonna cut it..

Rudy Gobert, currently in the NBA, but no where near as good

I don't follow NBA much, but a little research this morning shows that Brian Scalabrine of the Celtics and others (google search white mamba) have had this name bestowed on them. Now, it looks like Dalton's Teammates are pushing this nickname on DK. Check out this interview after the Vandy game. I LOVE this- DK's teammates are trying to make him crack up during an interview and they even start asking the questions. Amazed that DK kept a straight face through this. I never saw this side of Jonas Aidoo, but it's obvious this team is having fun and they have GREAT CHEMISTRY.

You do mean Edey is nowhere near as good as Gobert, right?
Yes, of course. I'm a huge NBA fan. Zach is a better FT shooter, only. Rudy rebounds and plays defense at an elite level. Maybe, Zach is better on offense, at least right now, in college, probably won't translate in the NBA, tho. But both are old school 80's and 90's centers that rarely leave the paint

Plus Gobert ain’t carrying the mass Edey must freight around on those knees, ankles and feet.

Nobody getting more than 500 minutes per season. He's a statue, and the NBA has little use for guys like that.

Rudy is a constant on the all-NBA Defensive Team and won the DPOY, at least once, maybe twice, can't remember. I got some short-term memory loss, for some reason

This is the highest I've seen Edey at (17) and that's only because they think the Heat would convince themselves they have the S&C program to fix him.

I think these guys do a pretty good job with their mocks. They have Knecht at 15, which is not the highest I've seen him.

He's going to win his 4th this year, which will tie him for most ever.

IMO, there has never been anybody like Gobert, and Edey is not Gobert in the least bit. What makes Gobert so special is that he has the shot-blocking skills of a Mark Eaton, but he can cover a ton more ground, and his conditioning is top-notch. Look at a guy like Walker Kessler. He can do a pretty good Rudy impression, but he can only do it for 23 mpg, whereas Rudy is going full tilt for 33 mpg. Nobody else is built like that.

Agree, I gotta little carried away in my comparison. Maybe, an old Andre Drummond, but Zach can't still rebound like that

I got Kessler on my fantasy team, along with Gobert and Sabonis. I dominate rebounds and to a lesser extent blocks
