Why not? I was a bit skeptical considering his thread background, but after watching his offense last night which had a west coast look to it, I think he would be as good of a hire that UT could get when Dooley is shown the door. We all know we are staring down the barrel of 3-5. Winning our last 4 games along with a bowl would bring us to 8-5 but that seems a little out of reach now. To me Mullen has proven his worth at Mississippi St. With his prowess as a playcaller, the fact that we know he can coach, and the resource advantage UT has over his current employer, I believe Dan Mullen would be a home run hire and would be able to put UT back on the college football map.

He would be a solid hire imo. Although, I think most people on here are looking for a home run hire like Gruden.

Realistically: Mullen, Strong, Smart, J. Franklin (please no), Dykes

Yeah realistically Gruden would be the dream hire but for the money UT would have to spend to get him, I think hiring a proven college guy like a Mullen would be better for UT in the long run.

If a change is made when do you do it? The hotseat recruiting is going to continue. If you want to keep your recruiting class intact when is the perfect time? If a recruit like Derek Green loves Jay Graham what do you do?

F' a recruiting class.

I'd rather put a winning staff in place for years than worry about losing one recruiting class.

Imo whoever is hired would be smart to keep Graham and Pittman. Obviously the 2 best coaches on this staff right now judging solely on production by their respective units.

So, where's the "We already have a (fornicating) coach, so quit your (female dog)ing" thread??

Please, please, please.....take this retarded (male bovine fecal matter) in the football forum, where the mouth breathing (fornicate) tools can fap to it and the completely ridiculous Gruden thread.

For the record, I (fornicating) HATE Jon Gruden. I would rather hire the corpse of Bear (cursed by a deity) Bryant. You'd get equal production, IMO.

yeah, lets keep losing games with staff who cant coach their way out of a wet paper bag in order to hold on to one recruiting class, a 20th ranked recruiting class, at that.

that's smart :dunno:

Exactly. Ive been on the Doolsters bandwagon until now. What good is it to recruit good players if you can't coach them to their potential. The only coaches that I believe are earning their keep right now are Pittman and Graham.

Agreed, any recruits lost would most likely be replaced by the excitement generated by a good hire. I'd like two good defensive coaches.... A lb coach, and a db coach who can teach players the proper angles and how to tackle. This alone would save us 10 points a game, our losing margin last night.

There's a quite that fits perfectly here. "Rome was built in 6 hours and 30 minutes". Wait, no, that's not correct, is it?? Help,me out here.

I swear to the FSM (bless his noodly appendage) that 90% of this fanbase are the most im-(fornicating)-patient bunch of children that I've ever had the misfortune of being associated with. How long ago was it that we had, what, one or two senior starters?? How long ago was it when our #1 WR went down for the season, our #1 QB went down right before the toughest part of our schedule, and our senior MLB....someone widely regarded as the heart, soul, and leader of our defense.....didn't play??

Here's my impersonation of you and the rest of your "Fire Dooley" cronies.

"Hey, Chef Dooley......we want a five-course gourmet meal.....but you got five minutes to cook it. However, if you're not done in three, we'll threaten to replace you with another chef. Your ingredients to start are cow (fecal matter), horse (fecal matter), dog (fecal matter).....and two eggs. Good luck."

So Mullen took over at Miss State the year before Dooley did here. I wonder a couple things:

1. Do you think he has it easier recruiting there than here?

2. What is his record vs ranked opponents there? Did it start out as awful as our 2.5 year experiment?

3. Given his successes getting performance out of inferior athletes when compared to ours, what do you think of the job Dooley has done ONLY in respect to a comparison between the job he has done here Vs. the job Mullen has done there.

Are we crazy to expect at least a comparable upward movement in the product we put on the field?

I'd love to go after him, but didn't he even turn down Florida?
Good football coach.

I'm not talking about going after him as much as wanting the Doolites to see with a real coach what can be done in similar circumstances even in a lesser recruiting position. NOT expecting more than what we have is now or soon will be in the minority.

I guess I am just jealous of Miss States coach.......how sad is that.

Personally, I have been impressed with the job Mullen has done at Miss St. I know he may never win the West, but his team is a good, respectable football team.

Mullen is a good coach, but he's happy where he is at. I would love (if Dooley fired) to see Hart go after Charlie Strong of Louisville. He would be great here

Yes, I do! Mississippi has a lot of D-I FB talent--much more than TN does! And Mullen went 6-6 last year--HIS THIRD YEAR! We were worse off than Mullen was when he took over MSU...What would have happened if CDD had been hired instead of Lame Kiffy so we could have an honest evaluation? And Mullen didn't have a coach before him come in to run off Tajh Boyd or other good players before taking over--nor did he have to play the schedule we play with the injuries we've had over the last 2 years, either!! I can't remember our schedule being tougher than it has been for us in 2010 and 2011--EVER. I've been watching the VOLS since 1979.... :salute:
