D'Andre Payne Commits!!

Kinda small (5'9") so he must be a heckuva athlete to garner that 4th star. Hope he grows 3 or 4 inches in the next year or two. Just saw where 247 has him at 5'9.5" so the growing has already begun! ;-) Just saw his 40 at 4.4. This video shows that he also likes to lay the wood:

Man, it's hard to believe that we're at the beginning of April!

As long as he is aggressive it won't matter if he's 5'4". You get into the WR off the line and disrupt his route and you win the battle most the time as a CB unless you are dealing with a big, physical WR.

The "unless" is what worries me. Lots of those big, physical receivers in the SEC.

Pay thigpen whatever and give him whatever he wants! We gotta keep him around!

It's everyone. I understand what he's done for us but everyone is on these guys. Look at all these guys saying I talk to all the staff, or all the staff calls me. It's a family effort and its why we are seeing these huge results.

This kid is physical and doesn't mind hitting people. As long as he gets his technique down he'll be fine. A lot of people wanted this kid.

I'm a star gazer, so I'm happy to get as many 4*s as we can get. But not to rain on anyone's parade, this kid is a 5 foot 9 corner -- can he defend 6 foot 3 WRs in the SEC? I'm assuming he's fast as heck, but is he bringing a ladder with him? What am I missing here? (And yes, I know Butch is a better judge of talent & need than me).

As much as I hate using a gator as an example, you don't have to be tall to be a great corner...

Nice chart! :good!: Makes me feel a little better that 10% of all pro bowl CBs since 2010 have been 5'9". Doesn't make me feel better that 90% have been bigger than that.

Look at the jump on the chart for 5'10 and 5'11 corners. Payne is a junior in high school so I would guess he still has some growing to do.

I don't care what anyone says, I check there every time we get a commit! So I guess it means something to me...

Same here bruh! Someone posted on Twitter that Butch doesn't want a top 5 class, he wants the number one overall rated class! I'm tellin ya, win some games we aren't supposed to and its not impossible.

Nothing will make you feel better apparently because we just got a corner that we needed very badly with offers from FSU, Ohio St., Georgia, etc..

I was as hard as anyone on CBJ with the close of his first class.

However, if he finishes as he has started this class, we will finally be on the way back to being "in the hunt and in the mix" of the SEC.

It's nice to see us getting guys with offer lists that don't read like we poached them from the heavyweights of the OVC. (Thanks, Dooley.)

I've grown at least ~2 inches from when I was a junior from 5' 11" to almost 6' 1" so he will be fine. Given I'm 22 now but you get the idea lol.

Dude. The offer list he had was pretty damn impressive and those schools apparently were not that concerned about it.

I'm as skeptical as they come, especially when a lot of people were getting excited about these diamonds in the rough that Dooley kept signing, but this kid can play. Enjoy it.
