Daniel West Commits

Is West comparable to C.J. Watson? He's built like C.J., and they seem pretty similar coming out of high school.

Daniel West - Basketball Recruiting
C.J. Watson - Basketball Recruiting

CJ might not have been the most talented UT point guard in my lifetime, but he's the one I'd want leading my team more than any other. He played the best defense, was tough, could get hot from the arc, and played poised most of the time.

If West is as good as CJ, we'll be fine at that position for several years.

Well if Pearl and Tony Jones want to establish a pipeline into Michigan, and the kids like the weather and the girls down here, then that'll be just fine with me.

Atlanta and Detroit. Some pretty good players there.

Daniel West, a three-star point guard out of Saginaw (Mich.) H.S., the No. 7 team in the country according to USA Today, has committed to the Big Orange. At first glance, West looks like a question mark, having backed off of his early commitment to Bradley. (Yes, Bradley.) And a lot of people up North are suggesting West may be a Missouri Valley Conference level talent. We shall see.

did we reach on this guy?

I doubt he was a scorer early on in his career. PG's who are quick and can distribute at the high school level are a dime a dozen.

Pearl doesn't need a superstar PG with what looks like the kind of emphasis he is placing on the frontcourt. If you add Hopson to that, then why would we need anything else than a PG that can share the sugar and play defense, as well as knock down FT's when it counts? (He was 11-12 in his last game)

dont trust the people up north for anything sports related. Look at the quality of football and basketball in the South.

Will this guy replace Ramar?
I just don't see Ramar having a successful career as a pg, makes to many dumb decisions. Maybe by adding West that will put pressure in the back of his mind and give him the incentive to practice harder.

Ramar better stick to Point Guard because calling him a shooting guard would be absurd. He could be a good brick guard though.

If Ramar isn't successful as a PG, he won't be successful. Period. A lot of people believe Ramar has a future as an NBA PG, so we'll see.

In no way will West replace Ramar. He will back-up Ramar for as long as Ramar is at Tennessee. However, I do believe West will have a solid career in Knoxville, most likely starting his junior and senior years. If Ramar has a breakout year next season and leaves early, West could be starting as a sophomore.

Well, to me, Ramar is a bust.

Well, to me, Ramar is a bust.

He's a sophomore starting at PG on one of the best men's college basketball teams in the country.

Not too shabby.

I guess if you expected him to come in from Michigan and score 15-20 a game... sure, he's a bust. Not everything he does on the court shows up on the stat sheet... but he's breaking down defenders and playing solid defense.

IMO, he grades out at a B-.

Yeah Ratings dont always mean everything even though they give you a good implication of the talent the player will be, Lofton was a three star and look what he turned out to be, heck JaJuan Smith was a walk-on

Those crying about the football recruiting should read this! ***'s don't mean squat!

In a crunch time situation I would rather have a kid in the stands handling the ball than Ramar. He is probably the worst shooting PG in America, and his "breaking defenders down off the dribble" only winds up in out-of-control shots and silly passes. He needs to get it figured out before tourny time, because he is killing them right now. Not a good PG at all!

I will say this... Ramar is key to Tennessee's National Championship chances. He sets the tone.

Without Howell, UT loses to UF last night! and a #1 seed. Better be glad we have him!!!!!!!!!

Losing last night wouldn't have necessarily lost UT a No. 1 seed. Also, Howell scored 5 points in the 1st half. How would UT have lost without him? He also let Calathes drive right by him about 5 times.

The more PT Howell gets, the greater chance UT has to lose. Simple as that.

I agree but I'm also sure the coaches know that as well. If Ramar was playing well or trusted by the coaches Howell would not play much. I think it speaks volumes about Ramar that Jordan plays so much.
