Dantonio steps down

Any Mich State commits we could push for in the next 24 hours?

Didn't one of the WRs from Marietta commit there?
It's kind of foolish to retire from a college job nowadays, now that it almost always pays you millions to suck for a year and then get fired.

I wish White would have held off signing. He was bumped up to a 4* after the season. He had 103 catches.

And I'm gonna say it again:
*If the NCAA truly has the athletes best interest in mind, they need to do away with this ESD (before the coaching carousel starts) crap.

Give them a no contact option if they don't want to be hassled. But allowing them lock themselves in, when they have so little real world experience, is a terrible idea.

Exactly.

I think the lid is gonna blow off this soon and he’ll be smiling all the way to the bank

Is there a precedent for a player or players to be let out of their NLI in a situation like this?
Seemed like it happened when Richt left Miami.

There is an exception that just passed last year, but it isn't for NLIs and is real funky. Basically for Summer enrollees and the coach leaves before Fall. Gives a free transfer.

Pattern is full ghost rider! I believe the roster has its players, UNLESS it is a big position of need, like the DL.

I have a gut feeling CDA will get a look here. This late, they likely go coordinator and CDA is one of the best available from a reputation standpoint.

Weird timing for a resignation to be sure...and that probably would benefit Butch. Not many coaches would be willing to take on a team this late in the game. I guess MSU could just go interim for a year instead of rushing to hire a mediocre name. Will be something to watch.
I disagree. It would set him up well for his next buy out....

I doubt there are any MSU recruits we would want.

MSU's recruiting has really been suffering. If they were cheating, they were terrible at it. Dantonio had a rep as a very good defensive coach but his talent gap was becoming severe, even Indiana was leaving him behind. No doubt all the smoke about recruiting violations and the covering up of some pretty horrendous behavior by his players was killing him. Out of 22 recruits this year, Rivals said 2 were 4 stars and 247 said there were no 4 stars. Ferentz at Iowa does a great job at seeing potential and developing players within a specific system, (I actually enjoy watching them play in the Big Ten but they would be a 6-6 team in the SEC) but I never felt that was Dantonio's skill set. He needed a certain level of talent and he wasn't getting it anymore. Except for Ohio State, the Big Ten is really suffering, especially with Harbaugh not being able to make it happen at Michigan.

I read the article and saw where one of the issues is that they were allegedly lining up jobs for the families of recruits, with businesses affiliated with a huge booster of theirs. You couldn’t ask for a more unfortunate name for a booster who gives your program tens of millions: Skandalaris.

Funny that they were getting heat for something that is standard practice in SEC.
