The company I work for was bought out in 2020, the mother company is now looking at the cloud for a number of apps. They are also thinking about a colo options for my two DC's. Right now believe it or not, after crunching the numbers as to what it cost us to run the two DC's and have two full time staff to run them and factoring in many many factors, we are 18 million dollars cheaper after you run the numbers over the next 8 years. The cost to move all the gear, have "hot hands" pay extra staff to move and create new/same apps while the fulltime staff maintains the current environment., with zero down time; as well as all the other things we looked at just didn't work out well for those ideas. That said I'm about 4 years out from early retirement. Even if they chose to go to the cloud and colo the DC's it would take them years, heck it took them 3 years just to start talking about this.
I told my director that if they looked like they were going to go that route anyway I would stay until the two DC's were migrated, but I would be putting in my retirement papers just before it was all completed. He laughed and said they weren't going to go that route. Of the two company, we were the only company that was making money why they were at a net loss last two years. They need un operating at 100 percent.
