Why in God's name would a 60 something making $2 million with no pressure voluntarily move to crappy weather and a delusional fanbase that thinks it's 1978?

I wish I had seen this before my previous post...... You said it much better than I did

He's got it made at Duke. It's a BB school and a historical loser program in football that he has playing at a respectable level. He is making bank and had no pressure on him at all.

He's a teacher and has never liked the extra shat you have to front in a big program...Duke is perfect...as has already been stated.

And to think that People honestly thought Butch wouldnt be considered. While not at the top of their want list, offering Cut shows the reality that MI isnt hiring a homerun hire.

This should be his official response to Michigan.

I'm not sure they'll get a home run unless they convince Miles to leave LSU. He's about their best shot at a big name IMO.

Michigan if they have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for a head coach they could hire Dave Doeren of NC State(a very good coach with not much to work with at NCSU) and the Western Michigan head coach P.J Fleck who's done a hell of a job turning things around at WMU.

PJ Fleck is one hell of a coach. He's actually the youngest coach in the FBS at 35. I would offer Gary Andersen, Craig Bohl ( 3 consecutive FCS Champions ), Jerry Kill, Justin Fuente, and others I am forgetting about. Les Miles is seriously overrated.

I hope they hire a great coach that can recruit. Not because I like Michigan in any shape, way, or form (or the Big 10 for that matter), but someone needs to field a competitive team to stop Ohio St. from sleazing their way into the playoffs in the future.

As the late Jim Valvano told one of his former assistants who was considering a move to a "bigger" program: "don't mess with happy."

I think Cut is happier at Duke than any place he has been based on interviews I have read. Good for him.

Cutcliffe will retire at Duke. He's in a no pressure situation making $2 mil per year. Plus, Duke is just an ideal position for Coach Cut.

That would be a kick in Fulmer's teeth if it came about. Cut was Fulmer's mojo. Look at the stats of Fulmer with and without Cut.

Reasons why Cut isn't going / won't go to Michigan:

Same reasons he didn't come to UT.....

1. Cut has it made at Duke. Has done extremely well for a program just a hair above Vandie (historically). They will never fire him, unless the bottom completely falls out.

2. The expectations at Michigan are nearly impossible to achieve. They want to be competing for national titles every year. Not so sure Cut could sustain that, much less anyone....

3. Cut had heart problems and needs to be in a relatively low stress work environment. If he thought UT would be too stressful (which it is), Michigan would be worse. They have more overall wins, titles, and slightly better overall tradition and expectations as a program. Hate to say that, but it's a fact......

I'm sure he is very honored by Michigan reaching out to him. It speaks volumes to what he has done. I'm happy for him as a Vol fan. But, he just simply isn't the man for the job, as much as I like him and know him.....

Was told tonight #Michigan officials offered David Cutcliffe their job but the #Duke coach turned it down. Times sure have changed.
