David Petraeus

Generals need a decisive Victory, do they not?

That said, I would likely get behind him, while i didn't/wouldn't with Powell/Clark.

Most capable grand level officer we've had since Ridgeway, IMO. And General Petreaus seems to be a soldiers General, like Russ Honore, not sure he could fit a mold for a major party campaign.

I don't like the idea of a military officer being in the oval office anymore than I do a CEO being in there.

He just took a position in the CIA. He is not running. Obama bought him out of race.

Not at all. If Obama wanted to keep him out of the race, Obama would have kept him at CENTCOM where he would be legally restricted from running. As head of the CIA, Petraeus can run.

You do not take that position then run for president. It was an offer DP could not refuse and Obama knew it.

He certainly can run for POTUS from that position; he would not have been able to run while he was still military. It would take Obama by surprise and it might not be deemed appropriate protocol for Petraeus to run; however, I am not exactly sure that Petraeus will worry about being impolite if he feels he has a legitimate shot (and, the more GOP candidates that either drop out or look like fools, the better shot DP has).

Military officer and CEOs are out. I assume governors are iffy too since they've actually had managerial responsibility?
[/rant]

Why are military and CEOs a bad idea?

I simply don't trust them.

They both have grand personal agendas, as different as they may be.

Stanley McChrystal would be better. He tells you like it is.

I like McChrystal; however, I am not sure that talking *****ing about the CiC behind his back is "telling it like it is".

Gripes and *****es should go up the chain of command, not down.

Don't have a problem with CEOs. Higher up military officers always gives the impression of a military-industrial complex connection, although we haven't had one with that ranking since Ike, and he was the very one that made the thought famous.
