then i'm failing to see why you aren't an obama supporter?

Wait, what? I'm talking about Carter having a hand in deregulation, disbanding government agencies, and corralling the Federal reserve and you liken him to Barry?

Eisenhower was one of the best presidents America ever had.

(Of course Grant was one of the worst.)

I, too, "Like Ike". However, he would never be accepted in some of the ultra-conservative political groups of today, IMO. He was too moderate, but comparing the political climates of the '50's to today is like comparing apples and oranges.

carter was a believer in govt as the solution to everything. he also was a believer that the corporations were bad for this country and he also was anti oil drilling. he also "inherited" a bad situation and made it far far worse. the two are practically brothers. and let's not forget that inflation didn't start dropping until reagan convinced teh country it would.

I agree, but in practice he wasn't nearly as much a "big government" guy as Reagan was.

I love Reagan in word, but not in deed. The opposite is true for Carter.

The military is part of government.

Even Ford and Carter did a better job at cutting government. Their combined presidential terms account for an increase of 1.4%—compared with Reagan's 3%—in the government's take of "national income." And in nominal terms, there has been a 60% increase in government spending, thanks mainly to Reagan's requested budgets, which were only marginally smaller than the spending Congress voted.

i'd say letting the shaw of iran fall was the worst middle east mistake any US president in history has made.

In a few years I think we will see that Jimmy II, Obama, is making even greater mistakes.

One only has to read; 'the great betrayal' by Ian Smith to see what a sorry bastard Jimmy Carter was and is, I think that book has been republished as 'bitter harvest.'

As far as I'm concerned anyone who thinks Carter was competent in any way hasn't examined the facts or has less cognitive ability than a chimpanzee. (call them dhimpanzees)

Carter's latest fisaco was a trip to NK with his 'elders' and when he came back to report to the US state department, there wasn't anyone available to recieve him.

That just goes to show, even his own radical socialist party recognizes him for the fool he is.

BTW, satelite photos reveal that NK now has concentration camps with hundreds of thousands of inmates. Of course we all know that Jimmy can find a way to appologise for any and all despots.

I have to say that I agree with GS. Time to file this thread under the "End of the World" thread.

I have not said he was competent. I agree he was an idiot and he has a political philosophy that I completely disagree with. That being said, he didn't do very much in office (which any libertarian will tell you is generally a good thing). This is more than I can say for Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama who spend and spend, engage in unnecessary foreign conflict, and skirt the constitution by legislating with signing statements, etc.

Unseating Mossadeh and replacing him with the Shah was far, far worse. Would never have been Khomeni had Mossadeh not been overthrown by the US.
