Patterson, Shaw, Strong, Tressel (yes show cause and all...not as bad as people make it out to be, even if we are on probation for a few more years), Greg Roman....heck Josh McDaniels would make sense to me...a young Pete Carroll. I could get excited about any one of those guys.

Fisher or Fedora...could not get excited about them.
Petrino and Franklin would make me hurl and forget Tennessee football for a few years.

I'm comparing him to Strong. A guy that will never sniff a NFL offer. Excuse me, I'm watching UCLA gut the Stanford rush defense.

This. I doubt he leaves Stanford, but make them pay to keep him if nothing else. $4mil goes a lot further than it does in Palo Alto and a hell of a lot further than that $1.5mil. Harbaugh or assistants had to live in campus housing I remember hearing because their money went nowhere out there.

Dave Hart's job is to get the best coach he can. At this point you can't trot out Golden, Fedora, Davis, Jones, etc. without mattresses being burned. If he atleast doesn't go out and throw money at guys like Shaw and Peterson like a 1st round draft pick who just went to Spearmint Rhino for the first time it would be insane. Gruden wasn't going to happen for alot of reasons, but if you're willing to spend the most in FBS on recruiting, have probably best facilities in NCAA, then step up to the plate and pay big boy $ for a coach.

Eh I like Strong but the same people that support him bang on Franklin for never defeating anyone. I think Franklin is every bit as proven if not moreso than a Charlie Strong. I will support either of those guys though, long as we don't hire Golden.

Throughout all of this Gruden mess (he's still my #1, dead deal or not, anything can happen), if Hart nuts up and goes and snags Shaw, I think I would be just as excited as I would be for Gruden. Give Shaw our resources and access to more recruiting ground and surround him with a higher budget staff, he would win championships here. Still not likely to be him though. If I were a betting man, i would put money on Strong (who i can live with, but not my 1st choice at all).
