Thinking before you speak clearly isn't a requirement for going to Stanford.

Wow, I would have expected our genius neighbor to our west uh Derek uh Mason to say something that intelligent before Shaw would.

Tough crowd

I thought it was funny

Really? Humor is subjective like most forms of entertainment but for me a casual dig like this is only funny when there is at least a shred of truth to it and it isn't so easily rebutted. All David Shaw did was play off of an old stereotype that southerners are dumb. It was a lazy dig - not Spurrier-esque at all.

...even fans on Stanford's site are pointing to Dylan Jackson (DE from Maryville, TN. Yeah, just down the road from our campus)...I'm sure this thread will reference him a dozen times before it's over.

No Stanford. I went to a college prep HS. To be fair.

I had no idea how vast the differences are between typical podunk rural high schools (like the one I attended) and highly-funded college prep high schools in large metro areas until I started dating my girlfriend.

She went to a top 50 high school, and not only did 99% of the graduates go to college, but a huge percentage of them ended up at Ivies and other highly-rated tech schools.

Exactly but these kids are from the lowly south too. Shaws statement was inaccurate and ignorant at best. He definitely did not help himself by it.

SN: I'm not part of the ivy group. I'm a Vandy, Tennessee, Auburn and LSU offer group. Was still good just not the Harvard's or MITs

Which is why rural and inner-city kids hardly have a shot from the get-go. For 90% or more of us, where we went to high school, or K-12 generally, will largely determine the rest of our lives.

I pulled that percentage out of my rectum, but it's probably close to being accurate.

....by the way....no university with the over run of applications like a Stanford receives every year, is going to send 50 acceptance letters to one senior class at one school......does not happen......especially from a private prep school (which my kids go to and have recently gone through the college acceptance process).....

Stanford lost to a Northwestern team we absolutely embarrassed.

Give UT the opportunity, our players will get all up in Stanford, just in a different way......

Lmao. OK.

Prep schools PROUDLY publish their college acceptances.....just give us the school and the year....quite easy to look up......I will give you an out, you can admit you were exaggerating, as we all do, or you can say that you had 50 "apply" to Stanford and received a thank you letter back......your move....
