As the resident BYU expert I assume he most likely was booted for having sex (which is an honor code violation). This is a huge blow to BYU. Brandon Davies was easily their 2nd best player*. It'd be hard to justify giving BYU a #1 seed now, and I think this makes them pretty vulnerable to an upset.

*First in rebounds and FG%, and third in points.

A lot of people get away with stuff. I had a friend who was a drug addict sex fiend and he faced the Honor Code like 5 times. He just denied everything and somehow they didn't come down on him.

Did the dean walk in on him getting in on or something? You would think the team would come up with a way for him to at least finish the season.

That's the mystery. Usually the ones that get caught are the ones that can't hide it. Bun in the oven tells all.

they always had a higher standard for players. and let's face it. if he's out drinking or something it wouldn't be hard for them to get a picture of it since he is well known.

Yeah, but I've never heard of somebody getting that severe of a punishment for drinking. You'd have to be a repeat offender.

Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse .

Conduct
All students and residents are required to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the Honor Code. In addition, students may not influence or seek to influence others to engage in behavior inconsistent with the Honor Code.

Students must abstain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal substances and from the intentional misuse or abuse of any substance. Sexual misconduct; obscene or indecent conduct or expressions; disorderly or disruptive conduct; participation in gambling activities; involvement with pornographic, erotic, indecent, or offensive material; and any other conduct or action inconsistent with the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Honor Code is not permitted.

Violations of the Honor Code may result in actions up to and including separation from the university.

byu board says it's for "repeated" violations of the honor code.

others say him knocking up a byu student was the final draw. interesting that his gf apparently goes to asu.

I think that if they win tonight and against Wyoming, they get the 1 seed. Their RPI and SOS is higher than the other teams making up the top 10. That should give them the push if they win the last two. IMO.

They might get the #1 seed, but not if they don't win the conference tourney.

Yikes, forgot about that. Another match up with SDSU. ESPN has been Jimmered. They want BYU up there for the easy talk and entertainment. It will be more difficult w/o Davies, but not impossible. I think his rebounding and shot blocking will be missed more than anything.

Honor Code Statement

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men. . . . If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things (Thirteenth Article of Faith).

As a matter of personal commitment, faculty, administration, staff, and students of Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University—Hawaii, Brigham Young University—Idaho, and LDS Business College seek to demonstrate in daily living on and off campus those moral virtues encompassed in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and will

Be honest
Live a chaste and virtuous life
Obey the law and all campus policies
Use clean language
Respect others
Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse
Participate regularly in church services
Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code

Specific policies embodied in the Honor Code include (1) the Academic Honesty Policy, (2) the Dress and Grooming Standards, (3) the Residential Living Standards, and (4) the Continuing Student Ecclesiastical Endorsement. (Refer to institutional policies for more detailed information.)

Nowhere does it say "no caffeinated drinks".

because every clown in america is looking at that website.

Obviously I have touched a nerve here and since I have delt with mormons before, I will just keep my pithy comments to myself

I bet 90% of those people break these rules in their private lives.

It's impossible to not break the rules. There are too many. You can't even have girls in your room. Broke that rule all the time. Didn't get in trouble with school but my landlord kicked me out if you can believe it.

What would they have done with Jesus since he drank wine ya know..

That's a good question. I think it mostly has to do with health concerns associated with alcohol. I don't really know. Life expectancy wasn't very high in those days and there was no drunk driving so I don't think alcohol was ever much of a concern to anyone.
