6'5", 237 QB out of Florida has UT as his only "high" interest school.

Any news you insiders?

DC is a heckuva prospect...he has Jamarcus Russell/Daunte Culpepper size, he's got a big arm and he's a pretty mobile guy too.

He's publicly listed us as his leader, and his relationship with Coach Cut is a big reason for that.

His offer list will have all the usual supsects when it's said and done. I like to think we'll keep him as a Vol commit, but he'll get the full court press from LSU, Bama and the instate schools as well.

i heard that at the U.S. Army All-America Junior combine that he was easily the best QB there and impressed everyone. So, UT is obviously in on him and pushing hard for him. It is time for UT to land a big-time QB again, they haven't done so since Peyton and have had to scramble for their QB's of late so, it'd be nice for UT to land a prized QB recruit again.

IF we get him...we are really going to have a logjam at QB unless someone transfers out. Even if someone does transfer out we are still in a logjam, lol. If Crompton doesn't leave this year I don't think he will (Unless to Div II). Stephens I could see going, I think BJ will stay however. This kid looks really good though..want to pick him up anyway :)

Crompton was highly rated yes, but wasn't the prize recruit of that recruiting season... Ryan Perrilloux was, who hasn't turned out to be anything special at LSU. We had to scramble to get Ainge and Schaeffer late, if you want to call Casey Clausen a good recruit then go ahead but, I won't.

Casey was highly rated though I do believe. Crompton will be the starter in 08 no doubt. Coleman is a very good qb and it will be interesting to see his development this year as a freshman. I wouldnt be suprised if he is redshirted.

As far a Jefferson is concerned, I have a friend whos son is a QB and went to a camp that Jefferson attended. The comment was that he had a rocket arm and was really big for his age and position. I hope he is accurate as well as a good decision maker too. He definately has the physical tools to be good.

Dang, I didn't know the best road record in UT history, and 2nd in almost all stat columns wasn't a sign of a good recruit.

I hate to hijack the thread, but I don't take kindly to Casey being everyone's whipping boy for the few losses we had those years.

With all due respect to Nick Stephens, regardless if he's a smart QB, he probably won't see a start in his career.

08, 09 - Crompton
10, 11 - Coleman

Crompton will not transfer. Stephens could go, Coleman might, but I doubt it

He'll always be remembered, fair or not, for the Georgia fumble and the 02 rain game against Florida.

I prefer to remember him for the win at Miami, snapping the nation's longest home winning streak...and the 5 OT victory at Alabama in 2003, where he threw for 4 clutch TDs and ran for another.

I'm not saying Casey wasn't a good QB, he just wasn't a highly-sought recruit, and I think his career justified that. He definitely won some games for us, I'll always remember his performance against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, but most will remember his poor performances in the SEC. Crompton will be the starter after Ainge leaves, but I think Cutcliffe is very, very high on Coleman. He hand-picked Coleman to come in... Stephens will probably end up transferring but he would be a nice backup.

You have quite the misapprehension about Casey...to say he wasn't a highly-sought recruit is just false.

As a high school senior, he participated in the Elite 11 camp...he was All-State and All-Region twice...and he was named to the All-American teams for Parade Magazine and PrepStar.

And his career at UT was pretty good too. He finished 2nd in the school's history in almost every passing category...and he killed teams on the road, going 14-1 in opponent's stadiums.

UT's D playing lights out, Tinlsey's end around and Taylor's fumble is what I remember about the Miami game. The Alabama victory was all Clausen. He gets too much blame placed on him because the team as a whole underacheived while he was here.

Anyways, Clausen was a highly sought recruit. Crompton was the #2 QB in the nation and Coleman was 10th. Not sure but Ainge was in the top 15-20 range of QB's. Stephens was considered a diamond in the rough when he signed. To say UT has not recruited marquee QB's is absurd

Another post to start a fight.

Clausen had a security blanket in Witten that Peyton never had. Look at Stallworth's NFL career compared to Kent or Marcus Nash's. Clausen also had Banks and Washington. Tennessee never had those kinds of receivers when Peyton was here. Casey was great on the road and beat UF at the swamp twice, but he also had talent around him that Peyton didn't.

Casey is all right in my book, but he killed me in that UF rain game. That ball laying on the ground is a hard one to forget
