They didn't. Somewhere the producers explained that the offensive language used back then was very tame compared to today, so they tried to make it more relatable.

Deadwood is awesome. But people either love it or hate it. Imo cool people love it..people that hate it are morans. :)

The first season is great, but after that it's a let down.

If you like good characters* and dialog, it's amazing and they are going to tie up the story with a movie, so get caught up.

*Calmity Jane, Swearengen, Charlie, Tom Nuttall, and EB are classic performances.

Drunk Steve..Offerman killed it. Heck they were all great characters. I dont think anybody botched it up.
